Recently purchased a home and want to build a fence along property line between our home and neighbor's home.

Any OT experience/wisdom on the subject?

Hey Bill, I'm thinking about putting up a fence right here along the property line. What do you think?

If you actually don't mind the neighbor or anything, then just tell him straight up that you want a fence. Only a pussy would get offended.

If you're like my neighbor, just start building it with the shite looking side towards your neighbor while you're on vacation.

If the fence is on your property, what can he say or do?

Unless you're looking to split costs, approach by saying hello and I'm building a damn fence

Go knock on the door. Tell him. You're doing it. Ask him to go in for half or you'll out the shitty side facing his property or if he goes in half yall can double wall the fence it's a mutually beneficial deal.

God my generation is fricking retarded.

You need advice on how to talk to your neighbors from the Internet?

Do you want them to help fund it? If so just ask. I've done it a couple of times and have had mixed responses. If yes, be prepared to build something you may not 100% like.
If no, build what you want in any style and/or material.

No fence there now, I assume? Check setbacks (if any) and covenants (if any).

hell McN, just catch him outside or go to the door during regular hours and tell him you intentions.
ask him if there are any problems with your plan...

go from there...also makes neighbor think more highly of you for showing him respect...
just my 2 pennies-

OK. So we have established that the OP is a huge vagina. What else have we learned today?

First thing we did after moving into this house 8 years ago was put in a fence. The sides and back of my yard are natural and I didn't want to cover that up with a privacy fence. We went with black chain link. You can't even see it along the back. Just disappears in the bushes. Mainly for keeping our dogs in. The only neighbor I asked was the one to our left because they already had chain link running down that property line. I just asked if we could tie into it instead of having to build one right next to it. They didn't care. And it actually benefitted them to because of the layout of their yard. They couldn't extend the fence in that gap because it was in my yard and they were glad it would help keep their dogs in check as well.

I see a lot of people saying that you should just tell him you're building a fence, that's terrible advice don't do that.

Neighbors are like dogs and children, you need to manipulate the shite out of them to get what you want (in this case your fence). So you need to make him think the fence was his idea. Get a really big dog on a really flimsy leash or start sunbathing nude. He'll be asking for a fence in no time and you can tell him he has a great idea. Win win.

Does your neighborhood have an HOA? If so you need to approach them about the fence.

Just put up the fence if you want one. You sound like you might care too much about what others think.

Step two: fricking ask you beta pansy.

Seriously, how do you women function without asking the OT about every little situation in life? My god, be a fricking man for fricks sake.
