A few questions from GoT Hardhome (Spoilers, books? etc).

1 - Some people are saying the White Walkers are evil, however I think I saw somewhere that they are actually sort of ambivalent, just working towards a natural goal?
2 - Are the Iron Born safe from the army of the dead because they are out on the Iron Islands?
3 - The dead that attacked Bran and co at the tree were running and fighting fast. Why are people freaking out about the dead running last night?
4 - How would the White Walkers breach a sealed Wall?

You couldn't find a single other GoT thread to put this in?

1. Their goal seems to be to make everyone their zombie bitches. (not a spoiler, just speculation)
2. No idea. Their not crossing water has never been mentioned in the books so no one knows what last night means (if anything).
3. Because they had been slow and shambling, except for that scene. My guess is that the more Winter comes on, it brings magic with it and with stronger magic we get stronger/faster zombies.
4. World War Z it? Maybe just chip through it (since zombies don't get tired)? Go around it?

Chalk the WWs not going into the water up to poor writing by the show runners.
That's not a scene or description from the books

The entire Hardhomme fight wasn't in the books.
My guess is that it will be played off as a strategy by the WW's. When you can turn their dead into your allies, letting them go home to gather more fodder (read: future allies) in one place just makes sense.

It's still kind of a plot hole in the books as well since all the WWs need to do is swim around the wall.

My estimation is that the zombies would sink. They may be able to cross a waterway and emerge on the other side as they do not require air to breath. In order to float they need to displace more volume of water than they "weigh". How would they gain buoyancy to attack humans floating on top of the water (with their lungs filled with water and holes and damage to their skin/exterior)?

I am trying to be like Jon Snow and unite different, enemy groups into one thread.

If a WW can ride a horse, he can sail a ship or row a boat

The urgent message Jon got from the commander of the mission at Hardhome said "Dead things in the water." The wights had attacked the ships at Hardhome.
On the show there's some truth to that by showing all the abandoned ships in the background

Oh yeah, I had forgot about that. But there still wasn't an all out battle like on the show. And I don't think that any WWs appeared at Hardhome, that I can recall anyways.

Well, Hardhome had been cursed for a long time before the Wildlings took up residence there. So those wrecked ships could've been there for hundreds of years for all we know.

1. There are some crazy theories out there regarding them (such as being former Starks).
2. No.
3. I prefer the quiet and slower zombies from earlier in the show.
4. Using the horn.

As for the water, there is a lot of folklore throughout history stating that evil things (witches, wraiths like in LOTR, etc.) are incapable of crossing over water.

Maybe they're scared of it like the Dothraki?
