I wanted JVG, but this isn't as bad as it could have been. I do think this hire was partly because TT and JVG would have wanted some semblance of control.

I will say this, if this team doesn't take another step forward, Dell and Gentry need to be shown the door. I will hope for the best.

Well, underwhelming hire for sure. Hope he proves me wrong, but I would have rathered keep Monty if mediocrity is the expectation.

I'm a relatively new Pelicans fan and just recently bought season tickets for next season, and I'll admit that I don't know much about any of these coaches (though that hasn't stopped most here from ranting). But here is my question: If Gentry is a brilliant offensive mind and the architect of such wonders, why did he have such a bad record throughout his history as a head coach, and why isn't that a concern? Did he just learn these new things in the past year or two, at such a ripe old age? I kinda think a monkey at the helm could build a pretty damn good looking offense with shooters like Curry and Thompson hucking up threes from just about anywhere on the court - and making them.

Little late to the party, but I am pretty content with Gentry as our coach. He was my number 2 behind JVG with Thibs being my number 3. I just think he will do really great things with our offense, but I do hope we get a quality defensive minded assistant because that is the side of the ball we really need to improve on.

Would have preferred Thibs or JVG, but no Brooks, Avery, or Jackson so I'm good.

Pels gonna score some points...

RT @ESPNSteinLine: ESPN sources say the New Orleans Pelicans have chosen Alvin Gentry as their new head coach

Ugh its the Steele (LSU DC) hire all over again. I am not excited about it, but I am willing to give him a chance. If he can turn our offense into anything like Golden State it will be awesome. I hope he brings in a good coach to coach defense. It can't be any worse than monty.

Geaux Pelicans!

Alvin Gentry kinda looks like Randy Ayers. That'd be funny if they kept him and did a coach swap mid-game
