St. George organizers turn in 4,630 more signatures

Advocate article
The next few months are going to be annoying as hell with the constant radio and tv ads these two groups are going to put out leading up to this election.

St. George organizers felt pretty confident with their numbers on Thursday. Rainey said they scrutinized the signatures a little harder this time and expect the validation rate to be at least as good, if not better, than the first portion of the petition.
If 17 percent of the new signatures were invalidated, that would still mean St. George has more than 1,000 signatures beyond the minimum number required to call an election.
Even if all of Better Together’s withdrawal forms are valid, that would still provide a cushion of a few hundred signatures for St. George. Last time around, about 20 percent of Better Together’s withdrawal forms were also discarded for not being valid.

You live in California and you know that? How are they being greedy?
And in full disclosure, I live in what would be St. George and will probably vote against it.

Would they like a cookie or bozo button for this accomplishment?

Probably have just read all the bullcrap coming from the Better Together folks like the race card being played, that it's a breakaway, don't have the finances to survive, etc.
Put it to a vote and get it over with IMO. It's just amazing how much effort Kip & co. have put into stopping a petition drive instead of fixing the problems plaguing the horrible parish school system.

Good. Get this thing to a vote.

I live in St George and will vote in favor of it

I just moved in the st George area in December and I'd like to know the pros and cons of this before deciding. Problem is the only information I can find is put out by either ebr or st George so it's all biased to fit each agenda

I'm surprised they didn't get 200k+ signatures. The company got paid per signature, right?

Anyone who believes St. George will not have to raise taxes as they wrote in the paper a couple of days ago is a fricking fool.

This is about incorporating a city and gaining control over all those tax revenues. Desegregation is over so, legally speaking, incorporating the city literally has NOTHING to do with schools.
Practically speaking it all but ensures that a separate school system will never happen by alienating other parts of the parish that will just vote it down.
Repeat. This is all about money.

I think that there will be a weight limit and a hotness minimum for women who live in St. George.
That's what I heard.
