My veteran roommate has been posting pics on Facebook for a few days
Ah, Facebook...
I'm sure that everyone that has thanked me this week, to which I still respond awkwardly but graciously, was also thinking of those who died.
My friends and I will do like most Americans this weekend and get together and grill/boil crawfish, drink beer with kids playing in the pool. And at some point we'll sit and talk about friends and family who didn't come back and will be remarkably unoffended by those who say "Thank You".
As for that picture ask your roommate if he supports violation of Army Regulation 638-2 Care and Disposition of Remains and Disposition of Personal Effects
1–10. Care of remains
a. Remains of personnel for which the Department of the Army (DA) is responsible will be cared for with utmost respect in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service.
b. Photographing of remains under jurisdiction of the Army is prohibited unless authorized for official use such as criminal investigations, autopsy, and identification processing. Photographs taken for official use will not be used for public relations articles or other wise publicly or privately displayed without the approval of CDR, PERSCOM (TAPC–PED–F).

Honest question, why don't we celebrate cops with national holidays?
That's a great idea. We could even make the national holiday into a celebration of GOOD Policing in order to avoid "triggering" anybody.

it's a broken record .. over and over and over again .. it is the same, constant shite with this guy .. I am surprised he still comes back in here day in, and day out to go through the same stuff .. Everyone knows how to push his buttons and does it .. and he predictably reacts the same every time .. The guy really is a shite stirrer's dream ..

Can we please get this thread back on topic?
It's a debate between Darth and SFP...

I get that their hearts are in the right place, but so are the veterans who are trying to make sure the focus this weekend is in the right place.
I was drinking beer last night in a VFW canteen with a bunch of Vietnam vets.
Sure, I thanked them for their service, and, only one of them became a bit excited to explain to me that Memorial Day is for the fallen -- of course I already knew that, but, I was able to appropriately clarify myself more fully by speaking about how much I want to honor those military personnel that fell.
The Vietnam Vet that got agitated does indeed have some disabilities today because he got blown up in combat in Vietnam.
I think we can give some slack and extra deference to folks like him.
The best way to handle this weekend is to tell a war vet:
"I wish I could also thank our honored fallen for their service. I thank you for your service. I've always been proud of people like you."

You can't judge a large group of people over a couple vets acting like pussies. But to answer the op, no. It's not any different then it has always been. Some vets have that fake outrage over stuff like that.

I know the service TDuck has given and it's admirable. But his butthurt over the continual adding of teacher planning days that drag on until 2:00 PM has certainly tarnished his legacy.

Yeah you can, that's how generalization works.

well .. if people don't know the meaning of "memorial" or "memorialize" .. that's kind of silly ..
I don't think it's a matter of not know what the word means. I think people just lump both of them together as military holidays. Each one is distinct, and I think it's missed with a lot of the general public. Or at least that's how veterans feel.

Yeah, the level of over-sensitive butt hurt and how quickly some people are to over react has gotten high everywhere.... Today's modern "diverse and sensitive" military, is getting out of hand.
Posted on 5/23/15 at 10:52 am to sicboy
well .. most know it is a military holiday .. so the term "memorial day" would conjure thoughts of memorializing our fallen military .. it's pretty dumb if someone needs to have that explained to them ..

i remember how pissed EBR teachers were when they did away with the monthly "teacher planning days" -- aka "teachers descend upon the mall of louisiana at 1:30" and made it one fat day in like October ..

Yeah, but how can you expect him to know that when all hog fans are stupid?

Not to generalize but I'd watch what you say, guys with girls' first names are usually pretty tough like that Johnny Cash song "A Boy Named Sue". I wouldn't frick with a poster named "Amy".
Posted on 5/23/15 at 11:00 am to LucasP
Good call. My mom's name is Amy and she could probably still frick me up. I'd imagine a man named Amy is even more badass.

I wonder if people were confused when the holiday was called Decoration Day.

No, I really haven't. But then again I don't spend my time searching for angles and "gotchas" in my crusade to become a great SJW.
I would like to think that a group of people serving, sacrificing their lives and time away from families and in many cases engaging in active combat and coming home without the limbs and quality of life they left with gives them the ability to at the very least have an ear from the rest of us.
But that's just me.

Logic? What thd hell are you talking about Mr. passive Aggressive a-hole? I asked a simple question and right away there you are with your usual snippy bullshite.
Why don't you do in here like you do in the biker threads and start pretending to be a veteran, at least when you're pretending you're somewhat amusing.
walk away.
SFP has never pretended to be a veteran. He makes it pretty well known what he does. I rarely agree with him, but his post was spot on.
Whether or not the OP served was totally irrelevant to the thread.
If you want to volunteer to serve, great. But don't beat civilians over the head with it.
That's all.

And "Amy Hog" at that. He's not only got a woman's name, but apparently a fat woman. I'd watch my step bro.
