So UNO probably couldn't afford/didn't want to chip in. After researching Melendez is pretty well paid for the SWAC. Makes more than Cador and almost as much as Alabama St.'s football coach. It'll be interesting what UNO ends up paying Dean.

He probably has a good source on this... He's at WDSU with Sharief who lives with Dean.

@KendallRogersD1: @FletcherMackel Rumor about Melendez and the buyout not true — From what I understand, buyout was going to be forgiven.

fletcher could be involved reporting on a story about himself and i still wouldn't trust his sources.

No matter who gets it, you can't be excited that you were their second favorite candidate.

I'm not sure a program like UNO is where you'd want to start though, that's quicksand that you could potentially not recover from.

Lot's of decent coaches have died starting out at terrible places before they were ready...

I wish him the best. I really do. But I was almost hoping he didn't get it for his own sake.

If Melendez figured out that he would get less support at UNO than he's currently getting at a SWAC school, I don't see anyone succeeding in that job any time soon. Dean is going to need a full time fund raiser and marketing manager to help generate enough support to move the program forward.

Since those things are impossible, he's going to have to get really creative and leverage what he can get from the university (read: students who want to build their resumes and don't mind close to zero pay).

Wasn't Will Davis from LSU the favorite? I don't see his name brought up.

We all know that Custer died at the Battle of Little Big Horn. What this book presupposes is, maybe he didn't?

Back on topic, the coach at Witchita St right now, while admittedly not lighting the world on fire, is doing way better now than when he was originally the HC at McNeese. This is after spending several more years as an assistant after that McNeese gig. He's also recruiting Louisiana pretty hard.
