re: Avg. Age - LSU/Bama

Thanks for doing this. I couldn't find a website with it. Didn't know if someone knew a link where this sort of thing was on it.

Avg. Age - LSU/Bama

Posted by LSU Fan49 on 11/4/18 at 10:55 am
Does anyone know the average age of the players for each roster?
Any updates on summer ball stats?

But, what I find interesting is that there are one or two or three LSU posters that agree with his assessment. To you guys... stop posting. Go to the Alabama website. They will appreciate you more.

I've honestly got no problem with a kid walking away because it isn't fun. Good for him.

Being tough on your players behind the scene is one thing but throwing them under the bus in public is chicken shite.

What should he have said?
"He's a great kid?" Maybe he's not.
"He works hard?" Maybe he doesn't.
"He's a great competitor"? Maybe he isn't.

All PM said was it wasn't a fit for him here and that it can be tough on players on such a big stage. A lot of Major Leaguers struggle in NY but thrive in middle America. Sounds like that's the case.

Mainieri says following are competing for #LSU SS: Dawson, Robertson, Lochridge, Freeman.

So is it safe to say that the second place SS is the starting 2B? Assuming Dawson wins the SS job, Can Deichmann play 2B and Lochridge play 3B?

Freeman hit well at Delgado but his BB/K's were a little alarming for the amount of AB's he got at a Juco.

Great Job Astro Tiger. That was an insightful series of posts. Thank you

Paul Mainieri lost Zardon when he traveled Bryce Jordan to UGA instead of Danny.

Thats sad when a player lets it bother him so much and is so insecure about his ability, that he decides to transfer rather than win a job. Well good luck at Nova. Hopefully the coach there guaranteed him a spot.

I dont disagree with:

quote:

Lets be honest. 97% of the time, if an athlete transfers, its because of playing time

BUT

Most kids transfer because of a log jam at a position. This is WIDE OPEN an many positions. Just fishy thats all...

Does anyone else feel like there is more to the story than Zardon and Byrd just transferring for playing time?
8 of the 9 starters leave and thats not enough opportunity?
Something smells funny. Not sure what though.

paul treated him like crap the whole year this past year.

Oh, you zip it, Doris! Rogers Hornsby was my manager, and he called me a talking pile of pigshite. And that was when my parents drove all the way down from Michigan to see me play the game. And did I cry?
Here's exactly how it will play out.

1) Coaches will see he had a solid Cape. Thats a plus.

2) They will evaluate his Fall. Good or bad, this will lead to playing time to start the season.

3) If he struggles, he will sit. If he hits, he will stay in the lineup.

Any comparisons to Schimpf, Katz, Babe Ruth... don't matter ONE OUNCE.
What you described is called a front runner.
ell_13, were you the finalist who lost to Mainieri for the head coaching job in '06? Bitter much?
quote:

there are fewer than 30 of the 300 D1 baseball programs

Over the last 15 years 12 different schools have won it.
Many of you are complaining about Mainieri for not winning the College World Series this year despite finishing 5/300 and having 4 CWS appearances while winning one in '09.

With the history of LSU, they are considered the Yankees of college baseball.

In the last 14 years, the Yankees have been #1 or #2 in highest payroll and have only one WS Trophy.

2014: San Francisco Giants, 7 ranked
2013: Boston Red Sox, 4 ranked
2012: San Francisco Giants, 8 ranked
2011: St. Louis Cardinals, 11 ranked
2010: San Francisco Giants, 10 ranked
2009: New York Yankees, 1 ranked
2008: Philadelphia Phillies, 12 ranked
2007: Boston Red Sox, 2 ranked
2006: St. Louis Cardinals, 11 ranked
2005: Chicago White Sox, 13 ranked
2004: Boston Red Sox, 2 ranked
2003: Florida Marlins, 25 ranked
2002: Anaheim Angels, 15 ranked
2001: Arizona Diamondbacks, 8 ranked

For college baseball, payroll = scholarships and facilities. LSU has full scholarships (and TOPS) and the best stadium in the country. Winning a World Series is 1/30 and the Yankees have only done it once in the past 14 seasons. Winning a CWS is 1/300. That is 270 more teams competing for the same thing. It is hard to win.

If the Yankees got rid of Joe Girardi or Brian Cashman, they would be gobbled up in a heartbeat by other franchises.

Give Mainieri a break and appreciate the fact that he has a .720 winning pct since coming to LSU.
Did Chad Jones ever pursue minor league baseball?

re: Blake Dean named UNO HC

Did Dean name his staff?
Who else got interviewed when Mainieri got hired? Did they name the finalist after Smoke left?
