Offshoreangler's latest NOLA trip

In the spirit of Arse's weekend gluttony, I decided to document my most recent trip to NOLA last weekend. Hopefully you good people enjoy.
I got to town around 7 Friday morning, my girlfriend picked me up and I dropped her off at work and took a prefeast nap.
We went to R&O's for lunch, split a large softshell crab poboy and a shrimp salad. We forgot to take a picture of the shrimp salad, mostly becuase I inhaled it immediatly. The softshell was great, salty and full of fat.
I dropped her off at work again then went around town buying shite I didn't need. Special thanks to DIllards and Massey's helping me get rid of all that discretionary income I had laying around. Who doesn't need matching sets of pants/shorts in sea foam green, red, and blue? frick....
I picked her up around 4, we showered then made our way to St. Roch Market. Apparently the gutterpunks of yalls fine town don't enjoy overpriced sliders and oysters much as us working class white folks. I was hoping to get a picture infront of the "frick all yuppies" painting-my hipster status would have been on Grand Wizard status.
Anyway, we sat down to a couple cocktails and a dozen West Coast oysters. I knew what I was getting into when I ordered them, but frick me, 70 dollars for a glass of wine, a whiskey drink and some oysters???? I wanted to smash something myself on the way out of there.
We left and went to Mariza for some apps and wine-burrata and some goat's milk ricotta bruscetta I think. I know it's just cheese and bread, but I was pretty happy with both.
At this point I was a little buzzed and hungry, so we made our way into the Quarter and ended up at Cain and Table. Because who doesn't crave Tiki drinks after oysters and cheese...
The drinks were pretty good, strong pours. We ordered a whole bunch of their side items-cebollitas, fried pickled green tomatoes, tostones, and some brussles. I was happy with what we ordered, but kept seeing these crispy ribs being delivered to tables all around us. Next time...
We left Cain and Table and went to Frenchman for some music, tooled around a little while then ended up on the balcony of Dat Dog so we could listen to the brass band that was tearing it up down on the corner. We ordered a Chicago Dog and some bacon ranch fries, the dog was serviceable and the fries were, well fries with ranch and bacon. Pretty hard to frick that up.
More to come....stand by to stand by....

Saturday we found ourselves at Jazzfest, the weather was great but the crowds were absolutely awful. I mean, awful.
We started out with some grilled chicken livers and a crawfish strudle I think? The livers were great, probably the highlight of the day.
I followed the livers up with a merguez sausage poboy from Jamila's. Really, really good as well.
We tried making our way over to see Elton, but again, the crowd was terrible, so we resigned ourselves to Ed Sherran. That little ginger can put on a decent show. We left aroudn 6 and made reservations at Coquette. That was probably the biggest mistake we made all weekend.
We got to Coquette at 930 and were seated promptly, then after that it was all down hill. Poor service, mediocre food-I wanted to like Coquette so much, but I was angry when I left that place. We ordered fried chicken, fried oysters, and a crawfish and rice bowl with the intention of splitting an entree if we were hungry afterward, but it was all just blah.
The chicken was served on a plate covered in mayo...I know the menu says buttermilk ranch, but naw mother fricker, that was straight up mayo out of a Sysco jug. The oysters were fried nicely, but they were just fried oysters. The rice bowl had pastrami and crawfish, which I guess is a good idea if I was high, but it was lukewarm and the flavors just didn't work.
We left Coquette and went to Camilia Grill for some pecan pie and vanilla ice cream. Best service and food we had all night.
Again...more to come, it's hard to upload all this and watch Barca beat Bayern....

Yeah I'd put Good dog and Moontower ahead of Dat Dog....hell even JCI's gourmet dogs are probably on par with Dat Dog.

You seem pretty angry (Arse drinks a lot of bourbon - maybe that would help) and not very interesting(see previous note). I much prefer Arseinclarse's recaps.

frickin A man. R&Os was my favorite poboy joint when I lived in NOLA. Looks like a killer time

Sunday we had lunch at Shaya. It's my second time there, first time for lunch so I was looking forward to trying their sandwiches. We got the tahini hummus, falafel sandwich, and the Jeruselem mixed grill sandwich. Everything was great, those fries and that slaw are particularly great. The mixed grill needs a little something to cut through the richness, something spicy or pickled perhaps. Take note Alon...
Sunday night we just ordered in. Couple salads from Regenilli's in Lakeview.
Monday I met my girlfriend for lunch at Albasha in Metry. I loved Albasha when I was at LSU and it is still a favorite of mine. That feta dressing is like crack.
I then made my way to the WW2 Museum. The Road to Berlin Exhibit and the Boeing Center are open now and are really, really great additions.
Dinner found us at Peche. Pisses me off we don't have something similar here in Houston. We ordered a couple cocktails, some marinated crab claws, the seafood platter, grilled cobia collars and the spicy ground shrimp pasta. Everything was great as usual. frick it pisses me off this place isn't in Houston....
I left town yesterday and was on my own for lunch. So I headed to Cochon Butcher. I've wanted to try this place for a good while, I've been to every other Donald Link joint so I needed to mark this one off the list to complete the trifecta.
Ordered the muffaleta and some brussels. Delish.
All in all, a great 5 days. See you again in a couple weeks NOLA.

Congrats on the weekend, solid work!
I had lunch at Shaya on sunday too! I'm with you on the mixed grill, it needs some acid.
Ok,
I'm guessing they heard you order fried chicken and oyster and assumed your delicate palate would prefer some blueplate over their buttermilk ranch.
Hell, you were surprised fried oysters were just fried oysters.
I wouldn't be surprised at the bad service though. They've been inconsistant with that especially dining that late. No excuse though.

How's the muff at Cochon compared to Central Grocery?
