Nope.

A least one of the two horses that were 2 & 3 will skip the Preakness and race the Belmont refreshed and beat him there.

Those owners know that a win in any of the races means increased $$$ in stud fees in the future.

He will not win the Preakness because of this simple fact: Baffert and Espinoza have won the Preakness as well with each of their Derby winners. The odds will always catch up eventually. Also, this horse does not have anywhere near the foundation that would help him recover quickly from that kind of effort. I think he will lose the Preakness and win the Belmont.

He was massively overrated in a weak crop he was a turf horse and he should have been DQ ed in the derby

Anything is possible. Preakness is 1/16th shorter. Several things could happen. Dortmund could go out harder and be harder to catch. Firing Line was just about as good as AP especially at that distance.

Also, The Belmont is a whole different race at a 1.5 miles. Many a dream has gone to die there.

I noticed that the media pumped up this Derby field as one of the best ever yet it finished 4.5 seconds off the record on a fast track... I was not impressed.

It was a deeper field you had more than 3-4 horses that could win it. I think that's the angle they were using.

I'm in the maybe camp.

Before the derby I would have said yes. He had to work pretty hard yesterday.

The track was slow and tiring, yes. He had to go pretty wide a few times in the race. He looked like he wasn't totally comfortable and fluid down the backstretch, so I'm not sure he loved the track. It's also hard closing on 2 speed horses who were allowed to set an easy pace and have something left.

But...

Victor had to start riding him pretty hard coming around the turn. Maybe he will move forward off this race, maybe he won't.

I really hope he wins the Preakness, though.

I hate big brown. Couldn't run without winstrol and when he was taken off of it for the Belmont (public outcry, I think) they were LUCKY he threw a shoe and gave them an excuse to pull up. It was a hind shoe too, not even a front.

He also had the same shitty feet and unsoundness as his father Boundry and from what I've heard continues to pass it on.

He is bad for the breed. Therefore I HATE big brown.

I noticed that too. He was really flogging that horse near the end.

And this is a horse that generally just needs the reins shaken at him.

I'm with you. He's still the only derby future bet I've cashed I still wear my I'll have another hat.

Who knows how long he'd had a bit of a tendon, though. I'm glad they didn't push it.

This horse might win the TC, but that just tells you how bad things are in horse racing if he does. Beautiful weather, fast track yesterday and not even close to Secretariat, who also went wide in the derby to win.

he'll win the preakness i'm sure of that. it's shorter and the best horses have no stake in the preakness and will rest for the belmont

I read today that the top three KY Derby finishers are in for the Preakness.

There has been a lot of speculation on the slow times. Does it have to do with 2 1/2 hours break between dirt races as well as horses no longer being bred for distance as well as trainers not knowing how to train as well for distance races. I also wonder if the new rules for starting have kept more of the hopeless rabbits out of the race which slows down the pace which almost always leads to a slower final time. However, it is probably just that the American TB is just not as good as it used to be on many levels.

People are praising Frosted's run, but it all reality, it wasn't that great. They were literally crawling home up front. Even though he had a lot of ground to make up, he should have blown by Dortmund at least if he had been coming home in a good final quarter time. Hell if AP came home in nearly :27, then Dortmund was over 27.

I also think after the 8 Belles incident, Churchill doesn't turn the track into solid concrete as it once did. I am not sure, but it seems to be the other stakes races aren't usually run in ridiculous times either as they used to be.
