Early one morning the sun was shining
I was laying in bed
Wond'ring if she'd changed it all
If her hair was still red ~ bob zimmerman

We can share what we got of yours
Cause we done shared all of mine

Thousand dollar car it ain't worth nothin'
Thousand dollar car it ain't worth shite
Might as well take your thousand dollars and set fire to it

And my favorite Pink Floyd lyric from Free Four:
The memories of a man in his old age
Are the deeds of a man in his prime.
The memories of a man in his old age
Are the deeds of a man in his prime.

Your daddy works in porno
Now that mommy's not around
She used to love her heroin
But now she's underground

The Last letter that you wrote, was on a blue piece of paper
That old feelins back, the clouds are rollin in
the beginning of the end is near, I feel your love fading, into darkness, it seems I have no friend
I feel the blues movin in: Del McCoury
Also pretty good: Standin on a corner, in Winslow, Arizona, such a fine sight to see
There's a girl My lord, in a flat bed Ford, slowin down to take a look at me: Jackson brown I think

Memories and drinks don't mix too well
Jukebox records don't play those wedding bells
Looking at the world through the bottom of a glass
All I see is a man who's fading fast
But here I am again mixing misery and gin
Sittin with all my friends and talking to myself
I look like I'm having a good time
But any fool can tell
That this honkytonk heaven really makes you feel like hell
Jukebox records don't play those wedding bells
Looking at the world through the bottom of a glass
All I see is a man who's fading fast
But here I am again mixing misery and gin
Sittin with all my friends and talking to myself

strong opening is so important, and hard to come up with.. I mean... Last night I slept in the arms of a girl from Louisiana....its not just what it says, it has to roll off the tongue just right and set up the rest of the song.
Carry on Wayward sons by Kansas, good example too
Seven Bridges Road by the Eagles...
Trailers for sale or rent, rooms to let 15 cents...
Pulled into Nazareth, was feeling bout half past dead..
I'm no stranger to the rain..
At last..my love has come along, lonely days are over, its almost like a song

Hey Joe, where you goin' with that gun in your hand ?
or
It ain't no use to sit and wonder why babe.
or
Here I stand, head in hands. Turn my face to the wall.
or
Lather turned 30 years old today. They took away all of his toys.
There are just so many great opening lines.

Okay I think by now we've established everything is inherently worthless. And there's nothing in the universe with any kind of objective purpose.
