I wasn't disappointed. I didn't get smoked so it was like a fun Sunday movie
But I know what it's like to get aimed and feel let down (justified or not)
You got me totally wrong.

It didn't let me down, but I wasn't amped for it like I am Star Wars or was for TDKR. I just thought one aspect of the movie could have used more explanation. Everything else was awesome.

I admit I'm guilty of this from time to time. I'm going to break into your post tonight.
As I said. I have refined a few things. It's still close enough to not go back and edit though. My biggest issue with it is when I did it. I was not kidding at the beginning of that post. I literally had been awake for around 42.hours.
About 1.5 hours later. When I quieted my mind and finally laid down to go to sleep, I was hallucinating a bit. Was similar to taking ambien and staying awake on it. Freaking strange stuff was going on. At one point I had what seemed like a guy skipping around my minds eye while clapping.

End of explanation.
I felt the conversation between Stark and Banner, and the conversation between Ultron and Jarvis, explained it well enough.

In my opinion, Stark considered himself the smartest man in the room (something he has done before) and lobbied Banner into donating his expertise to create the AI.

He did. That is all correct. Just so happens Stark was being influenced by the Scepter, as was Banner. Also, they said they weren't trying to create a similar one. They were trying to copy it directly. They never considered that the "AI" in the scepter might not be benign. Or the scepter eased their concerns.
The consciousness within the scepter is what actually created Ultron. It was a computerized copy of itself. Banner and Stark worked for 3 days straight trying to get it right and it never worked. They finally leave the room and it just so happens to be created within 2 minutes of them leaving? Yeah....no, not a coincidence.

But every test they would run on it would fail. We saw it multiple times throughout the montage. However, one that failed, said "Uploaded" on it once the left for the party.

Chris Evans Calls Captain America: Civil War ‘Set Up’ for Avengers: Infinity War
quote:
Though Avengers: Age of Ultron is still taking the world by storm, the attention is already on next year’s Captain America: Civil War, which will draw a line in the sand and divide the Marvel cinematic universe. Speaking with MTV, Captain America himself, Chris Evans, opened up about the movie calling it a set-up for the “real battle” in 2018 and 2019’s Avengers: Infinity War.
“It’s to jump off into the next Avengers, Infinity War,” Evans said. “So Cap 3 is going to be the set-up of the real battle, so there are a lot of people.”
In addition, Jeremy Renner and Scarlett Johansson revealed that they know whose “side” they’ll be on for the conflict, but they wouldn’t divulge.
Feeling left out, Mark Ruffalo pointed out that he won’t be in the film which prompted Johansson to respond: “Well you never know, there’s always time…I’ll talk to the Russos about it.”
Check out the full video in the player below.
The cast for Captain America: Civil War continues to grow, in what Anthony Mackie calls “Avengers 3.8.” In addition to Evans, Renner, and Johansson “Civil War” will feature Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man, Anthony Mackie as The Falcon, Elizabeth Olsen as Scarlet Witch, Chadwick Boseman in his MCU debut as Black Panther, Daniel Bruhl as Baron Helmut Zemo, Frank Grillo as Crossbones, and the brand-new Spider-Man.
Set to be directed once again by the Russo Brothers, who will also helm the upcoming two-part Avengers: Infinity War, Captain America: Civil War will debut in theaters on May 6, 2016.

I forgot to ask about this earlier and doesn't have anything to do with Ultron and the AI. But was anyone else surprised that Strucker was killed off so quickly?

It didnt say failed, the one right before it did. It just said uploaded. Which is where the consciousness inside the scepter uploaded the copy of itself. However the combination of human tech and Jarvis fighting back messed with the copy.

Definitely. I thought they would end up using him in AoS more. They made him seem like he was potentially more important with the teaser at the end of...was it CA:TWS?
Edit: Instead of having a third straight post. I'll parry this into a question. Which is another reason I think Stark was being influenced.
When they brought back Vision. Stark was insistent on trying again. The first time he didnt use Jarvis, and had obviously decided against it in the past since he said the scepter was "the key to creating Ultron". So why later, with Vision, was a recently rebuilt Jarvis suddenly "perfect" for the plan? Nothing changed with Jarvis. Unless Stark was still that motivated by his fear and failure because of the way the scepter had increased those 2 emotion's hold on him.

Yeah that did seem odd. He's also a cool character. But Marvel has a lot of villains to go through. Although odd, it's onto Zemo next.

I think something did change with Jarvis. He was fighting back the entire time. He was the "super fast elite hacker" beating Ultron to the punch. He was who Fury was referencing when they asked him about an ally and he said "Ultron has an enemy, that's not the same thing". They hinted at it a little clumsily, but I think that's what changed.
ETA: He changed from just being a passive reflection of Tony's programming to an actual AI fighting to stop the enemy.

Zemo - and maybe a thunderbolts spinoff - that could be fun.

I don't see it through Phase 4, but man that would be awesome.

I mean, this is basically what I think they were trying to get at.
You don't get there from what the movie actually said though:
Stark said the only thing about Jarvis left "thinking" was his protocols. Which are the strictest programming pieces in software. Stark also said that he was the one who had to put him back together.
That wasn't editing problems either. That was bad writing.
Regardless, Stark shouldn't have tried to do it again. He would normally be smarter than that.

Right. I don't think it was all that clear, even the little twist of Tony going to CERN or wherever he went and 'finding' Jarvis wasn't really paid off all that well. Unless I just missed something, which is possible. I thought that may fall under editing though, which is why I said clumsy.

The more I think about this film it has gone from pretty good, to good, to just... Okay.
