Thank you, crazy, for adding some much needed logic to this conversation. The fact that this is already three pages long shows that this is an issue that merits conversation, especially since he is still our coach. And I agree, we haven't advanced as much as some here would have us believe.

Pretty convenient to make a stupid arse decision and then just expect people to get over it.
Nah, no one should be held accountable for their actions.

He is the best coach in the history of the USMNT, regardless of the Landon situation.
Did Bruce Arena not exist?

It was about JK not thinking that Landon's presence would be a net positive.
If a coach actually believes that, then they are not qualified to coach a U-6 rec league. It would be as stupid as, "There is no way that Tim Howard should be our goalie because he has Tourette Syndrome!" There is no logical conclusion to where any person could believe that Landon would have a negative presence on the USMNT in Brazil.

You have become the worst poster on this board in a short time. Quite an accomplishment.
It is actually remarkable how much he blew TN Bhoy out of the water. I would take anti-Rangers propaganda and random SPL shite all day long over this.

I think the progress under Klinsmann has been minimal from a tactical point of view, and despite the fact we played Belgium well (not due to tactics, but things that American teams are generally known for, athleticism and workrate), he gets a pass for every decision he makes? Klinsmann, like every US coach, should be scrutinized, as he's far from perfect, and in many ways, was a lateral move from Bradley
The biggest differences are that he is German, has more hair, and was way better as an actual player. I think he be a better motivator or whatever, but I generally preferred Bob's roster selections (even outside of the Landycakes exclusion by Jurgen). The difference is marginal and the change in tactics are not that significant.

ETA: Next, you are going to tell me that the reports that LD beat the beep test were just unsubstantiated rumors.
Top 3 from the beep test:
1. Michael Bradley
2. Kyle Beckerman
3. Landon Donovan
Clearly, we should have only brought two players to Brazil because everyone else was fat and out of shape. Hell, Bradley "sucks" according to our posters during the WC, so we only had one quality, fit player on our roster then.

No, I'm responding to people who are glibly saying get over it about Landon, when it fits in with a pattern of poor decision making. And it was a poor decision by every metric.

I ate at Qdoba yesterday. EastNastySwag is all the negative parts about Randy and DS's posts on steroids.
This is all I have to say about this thread.

I think JK deserves a lot of criticism. I stop short of saying it was definitely the wrong decision to leave Landon, because the results were better than expected with or without Landon, and I just don't know what went down between he and JK. Y'all don't either, but you act like you do, and that's my issue with the tone of the criticism of that decision on this board. Your response may be that JK should have taken him anyway no matter what happened, but that's an opinion, and it's not grounds enough to go off on JK like this board has done.

Not including the day that the 7 cuts were made. You've been more passionate about defending the decision than those who opposed it.

My problem is that the U.S. is in no position to leave its best player off the team when the replacements are not near that level. Brad Davis is not an international level player, let alone one that should be starting against Germany. Even if Donovan didnt have the fitness, he would have been a better late game sub than Wondo. I also don't think it is a matter to " get over," as that implies an emotional response. It is simply a criticism. My view is that it was probably a matter of egos clashing, as JK's playing career dwarfs LD's, and maybe that is where the problem came from. And while the results were good, for me the process was problematic, which doesn't indicate future success.
Eta: not to say you were the one who said get over it.

I get like that.
But it seems like y'all hate him and blame his ego for us not lifting the World Cup.
I just think he's kind of a crappy manager but had the right attitude for the moment. I like his high expectations, I don't care that he's "hypocritical" because I think he's just not very good at coach-speak, and I like that he's not worried about offending the old guard. I think Donovan read him poorly and could have been in Brazil if he acted differently.
I think we could do better than him in 2018, but I'm not sure we could have done better for the last cycle.

Ultimately, this is what it boils down to for me.
Do I like Donovan? Yes, his performance in Korea basically sold me to soccer.
But I would never advocate for the US to take him to the World Cup because of past accomplishments. Jurgen said that from the very beginning and I was OK with that. But he was the best player in the Gold Cup, the best US player at the Costa Rica final and the best player v. Mexico.
Hell, he went on a fricking tear for the Galaxy in the immediate games that followed his exclusion.
Even at 32, he was still a top 5 player in the system and for a soccer program that is still trying to create a solid foundation in terms of the senior team, it was inexcusable to leave someone of that caliber off the squad, regardless of what the team's outcome was in Brazil.
