In some situations I think so, not saying baring them but tell them to stand back and report not to interfere, limit the numbers allowed and shite like that. The overwhelming media presence probably helped Ferguson last as long as it did.

Autopsy will be very telling.
But I can't imagine someone being capable of self-inflicting a spinal injury.
The body has a strong sense of self-preservation, it's damned difficult to hit yourself hard enough to do harm -- especially of that magnitude.
