Flea/tick prevention for Dogs/cats

Last summer was really bad in parts of Alabama. I had my yard sprayed, sprayed it myself a few times, sprayed the basement with some concentrate a guy at Home Depot told me was good, treated my dogs multiple times, bathed them weekly, and set off multiple rounds of bug bombs in the house every other week or so. I would get a little relief after the baths and bug bombs, but they would inevitably come back.
I understand it is going to be hard to keep them out of my basement where the dogs sleep, but I was wondering what products you have used with great success to kill fleas. They are already starting to show up, and it seems a little early. Probably from all the rain as well, but I want to stop them before it gets too bad.

Our dog has the Seresto collar - no bugs in 2 months of wearing it and family members swear by it.

Trifexis does not treat for ticks FWIW. Fleas, yes. Ticks, no.
My dogs wear tick collars. The better ones are about $45 but they last 6 months. They don't prevent ticks, but if the tick latches on it is dead in less than 24 hrs so it can't transmit the diseases.

I use granulated boric acid for fleas. My house is about 75% carpet and is easy to sweep into and it works for a long time.

Mine gets Advantage Multi. It says it doesn't work for ticks, but I've never pulled a tick off of her. She's in the woods all the time with me, and there have been times when I pulled multiple ticks off of me and she didn't have any.

After I came home for Katrina I had them in my house. Tried everything, and Bengal makes a flea spray that worked great. I would think regular Bengal would work as well.

Your doing right by treating your environment but you have to treat your pets as well since that's an important part of the flea life cycle. There are multiple options from topical meds, oral meds, and collars. But I will tell you that harts, Adams, and most other over the counter meds you get at grocery stores do not work well. If you decide to use topical meds do not apply them 2 days before or after a bath or you will not get the desired effect. I like the oral meds, trifexis, nexgard, bravecto.

Fleas are bad this year. I'm using drops on my dogs, the pills, spraying the yard with stuff. And putting de in the laundry room where they stay during the day.

Bravecto. Tablet that gives 3 month protection for fleas and ticks.

Comfortis works very well for my dogs. It is a once a month pill that they believe is a treat.
For my yard, I use this:
32 oz 7.9% Bifenthrin Multi Use Pest Control Insecticide Same As Talstar Pro & Bifen IT ~ Kill Fleas Ticks Stink Bugs Centipedes Earwigs and more! Pesticide Termiticide
From Amazon, cost is approximately $32.00.

I've found that drops on my dogs are ineffective and a waste of money.

Thanks everyone. I'm going to order some of the pills today, and continue treating the yard. I may get a pest control company to come out and treat the whole property, inside and out. One of the neighborhood groups has contracted with a company t get us all a group rate on mosquito treatment at a pretty decent discount, and in talking to some of them it works for fleas as well.

Update: The dogs and cat have been sleeping outside for 3-4 nights. I sprayed some Home Defense all around their bedding and basically saturated the floor of the basement until I ran out of spray. Yesterday the DE I ordered arrived, and I spent some time last night spreading that around the entire basement. That stuff makes a huge mess. The plan is to leave it sitting until Saturday or Sunday then I'll shop vac and hopefully get all the dead bodies out of there. I'm not letting the animals back inside for the summer. They have houses and beds outside they can sleep in. I figure if nothing is bringing them in and I kill all the ones already inside, they will have nothing to live off of and will be gone soon. I also have a bug spray company coming out tomorrow to spray the yard. One of the neighborhood groups contracted with a company for group rates for mosquito prevention. They come out and spray every three weeks. And I told them about the fleas, and they're going to treat the lawn very thoroughly because of that. I've treated the pets as well. Hopefully my carpet bombing tactics work out soon. Thanks for all the recommendations. I used some drops on the pets as well as the pills mentioned.

I realized this after my closet was infested with fleas. It's been a total nightmare, they just keep coming back. I am really hoping I got them yesterday I had my dog trimmed and dipped at petco, gave him comfortis pill, vacuumed all carpets, vacuumed all couches, washed sheets, and sprayed flea poison all over my house. If this doesn't work I may have a black lab for sale.

I'll let you know how the Diatomaceous Earth works out for me. It had great reviews in everything I read. If it is just the closet you could spread some around in there and it should kill the living ones and leave it for a week or two and hopefully it would get any eggs that hatch.
