Bermuda Grass in St. Augustine Yard

Any ideas on how to get rid of Bermuda in my yard? TIA.

The only way I was able to was a combination of pulling and roundup. I just had to deal with the fact that some St. Aug would die. It comes back pretty quick though.

I've been having the same problems. Owner before me cut his grass way to short, so the Bermuda was taking over. I set the mower at the highest level and now the St. Aug seems to be choking out the Bermuda in most areas. On spots where the Bermuda starts to get thick, I spray with Roundup, pull up after dead and lay new St. Aug sod. It's been just over a year since I took over this lawn, but it seems to be coming along slowly but nicely.

DWI....you ain't getting rid of it unless you dig it up and re-sod. Sorry but everyone either has some Bermuda or will have it in the future.

Just give the st aug time. That shite will choke out anything and you can't kill it with anything short of an atom bomb.

Might help if you can provide a little shade - the St. Aug. tolerates it, but the Bermuda does not. Other than that, like the others said, there isn't much you can do. Personally I don't mind the look of a little Bermuda mixed in, as long as you keep it cut.

That Bermuda is a tough SOB. I had a Bermuda yard that looked just terrible because it's too shady for Bermuda and the previous home owner had just put down Bermuda sod on red Georgia clay. So I rounded up the Bermuda twice, put in 3 inches of top soil, and then St. Augustine sod. The facking Bermuda came back from the dead and started taking over several sections of the yard. It's a very small yard so mostly I yank up the crap by hand and that has turned the tide. I wish the stuff had just grown well in the first place.

Raise your mower deck by 1/2" to 1".

You should be fine. One time deal shouldn't kill it. Spring is best time to do that, plenty time to recover.

I have had good luck using a product called Over The Top, which I purchased at Clegg's Nursery in Baton Rouge.

Yes it is....there's about 200 different types of Bermuda and the type that most St. Aug lawns get invaded with is air born. Plus St. Aug is just too damn fickle & high maintenance.
Attention all HOAs that mandate St. Aug - you suck!!
