Stupid boy. That was not meant as an insult. It was stating facts and hoping that it did your dumb arse some good.

If Paul was born 1000 miles away, for example? I doubt it, but I see your point. Not discounting the evangelical movement of the day, just stating the obvious that without something to preach from the mountain top, these guys continue baking or carving wood until the died without Jesus.

He didn't cause it but the patron saint of French soldiers, Joan of Arc was a major player because of her Catholicism.

Paul would have lived and died as a regular Jewish man if not for Jesus
From an academic standpoint Jesus never rose again. He is dead. Paul would have known this. Which means, again from an academic standpoint, he built the religion on the cornerstone of Jesus short influence. A man who taught only to Jews.
I am a believer. However, in a discussion such as this, arguing a stance by faith will not gain any traction.

Ok cullman, thanks for the lesson. Hopefully I can find Jesus and me and you can be on an even intellectual plane. I don't know if that is possible what with your massive knowledge of damn near everything

St Denis was the French patron saint of soldiers I thought.

Well Paul never met Jesus and pretty much made it all up as he went so who knows, Paul might've still spread a religion even without jesus

St. Joan of Arc is the patroness of soldiers and of France
Semantics I guess. But ftr, I would rather a dude be the patron saint of soldiers if it was my country.

Paul was born in Tarsus which is roughly 360 miles from Jerusalem. Back then, on foot, this was a journey of about 24 days due to the terrain. In this day and age we can drive 1000 miles in just over 14 hours if going the standard interstate speed limit.
So essentially, he was born over 1,000 miles away.

So was Jesus made up, or did someone pass on the message to Paul? If the latter, wouldn't your answer be that person before Paul?

Well considering the Christian religion has been the bedrock foundation that Western Civilization has been built on for the past roughly 2000 years, I say that alone is far and away more significant than Genghis Khan and his empire that is nothing more than a footnote in history today comparatively speaking.
I agree Christianity has been a pervasive influence on western culture, but you can't claim everything western event for the past 2000 yrs is a direct result of Christianity. Influence by? Yes. Cause and effect? No. The people who were living in Europe before and after Christianity are genetically the same.
Ghengis khan was directly responsible for the death of approximately 40 million people in a very developed culture. The total population of Europe at the time was appx 60 million. Imagine the ramifications if someone had killed two thirds of the European population. Would that not entirely outweigh the political succession of Constantine and the resultant spread of Christianity or the relatively minuscule wars of the crusades? There are 40 million people from china and the Middle East who no longer existed after the Mongolian conquests. It wasn't some ideological change, it was the termination of their existence and any legacy they might have had.

That first part is where I have to be careful in regards to my faith.
Academic: Factually, it is difficult to make an argument that he did not exist. However, obviously, there is an issue with the story of him rising again. So, if he did exist, died, but didnt rise again. Paul would have known that he was dead. He then proceeded to use the legend of the man to build his own religion. Paul taught mostly to gentiles, whereas Jesus taught almost exclusively to Jews.
If Jesus was made up, then Paul was of an even greater impact because his accomplishments aren't based on using someone else's foundation, but he laid the foundation himself by creating legend and then built on that.
Even if someone passed him the message and he took it for his own. It wasnt just the impact of what is in his books. It is the travels and evangelizing he did that truly spread the new religions influence.
