Monty isn't the solution, just like how Jackson wasn't for golden state. There are better coaches. I do give him the credit for wins, but his losses and rotations are not going to make us.

Good Post, I agree with most of what you said.

I mentioned that they've talked about how bad he is, because you said they'd give him flak if they fire him.

You think the media has a problem contradicting themselves?

There’s no doubt in my mind I will go back to being a fickle fan and get frustrated with him but to take this team to the playoffs, he bought himself some time and I’m ok with that.

My exact thoughts.

If either of them gets fired after this year, the franchise will catch a large amount of warranted flack from the media.

Only because they are black. And im saying this as a guy who think Demps should easily keep his job.

But Wilbon, Stephen A., and the like would lose it if 2 black NBA execs/coaches got canned after making the playoffs.

I mean...Stephen A. was saying that Mike Woodson should get "hard looks" the other day.

YES!!!! I don't know what got into Monty, but I hope he does this more often. He really did a great job last night coaching.

I heard that. Not sure if he's stupid or a troll.

I still don't think Monty is the long term answer for the Pelicans in this division. Pops won't stay forever and Duncan is nearing the end of his career. It's a competitive division will all 5 teams making it. Call me nega Pelican or whatever but they need a better coach to make a deep run in the playoffs. This series will be over in 5.

Dell Demps probably still needs to go.

I agree that Monty is not the guy to take us to the next level. He's a great guy. He's a decent coach.

He will make this team a little better next year, but still a first round exit, and they will try to make a homerun hire after that.

I really like Dell. The question is...if they are eternally tied at that hip, is keeping Dell worth being stuck with Monty?

I've hated him for so long, I don't know how to like him. I'm gonna try . That's all I can do is try.

Monty is surprising me a little bit. He's getting better quicker than I had imagined when he's needed to the most. That said, this Golden State series will be very telling in just how much he's grown as a coach. Yesterday's game meant more than the playoffs. It accelerated Monty's "put up or pack up" an entire year.

This team and Monty have an oddly symbiotic relationship. When it's good on the court, Monty's coaching is solid stuff. When it's bad on the court, Monty looks just as confused and flustered as the play. With the game on the line and the players nutting up, Monty nutted up. It's truly fascinating to me. I've never seen a coach get so affected by the on-court play. Ideally, the coaching would be a constant positive.

This series will tell us a lot. Here's to hoping Monty has it in him to prove all the non-believers (myself included) wrong.

Monty has been solid over the last few weeks, and he held the team together.

I don't think he is the long term solution, though.

He still has a lot to prove IMO. If we get swept or are only competitive in 1 game, I think all the reservations about Monty remain. On the flip side, if we are competitive or even do the unthinkable and win, we may have to change our minds about Monty's ceiling.

Could it be that we may just need a more dynamic offense? Could we be one assistant that is an x's & o's specialist away from taking that next step?

My biggest worry with this line of thinking is Monty not being willing to bring in a top flight assistant that could take over should the team get off to a crap start. You'd have to extend Monty and bring in the assistant I would think.

I think defense is more of an issue than offense.
