it's not like Nike is giving Tiger and Rory drivers off the shelf.
For example, Jordan isn't going to switch putters for an endorsement deal. Like both Rory and Tiger did.
I just don't see him being the pilot person to get their equipment arm up and running. Maybe 5-10 years from now.

He already said he will never change clubs based off an endorsement.
Tiger basically said the same thing without saying it, but ended up playing Nike clubs.
However, they are apparently just Titleist/Mizzuno molds with a Nike check on them

I do like how Spieth isn't covered in logos
Wait what
He's not.
UA on his hat, shirt, belt, and shoes, but he doesn't have 10 different brands on his sleeves, back, side of his hat, etc.
Its a single brand.
Similar to Nike and Tiger/Rory.

These guys have whatever fricking clubs/putters they want molded with a Nike check on them.

His bag and clubhead covers are the only real estate he can use for non-UA branding.

You could have said the same stuff about hunting apparel a few years ago. Brand loyal customer base in that sport/activity, too. UA is now a major player in the hunting game. They can do well in golf, too.
UA will really appeal more to 30+ year olds when they start making more conservative apparel. Jordan gets some pretty conservative UA designs, so it is a good start.
But as an AU guy who looks at UA gear all the time, they really need to inject some subtlety into some of the stuff for golf. I know older folks who view it as a gymrat (albeit performance) brand, but they'll probably need to break past that to really push Nike. Granted, the kids growing up on UA will advance it, but they'll probably want more subtle branding and styles as they get older, too.

Kevin Shanks started UA in 96.....in his moms basement. No cash or investors. He maxed out every CC he had to $40,000 to develop the dry fit technology. Drove up and down the east coast trying to make sales for almost a year. First decent sale was to Georgia Tech for $17,000 late in 96.. Got some momentum and kept on. Warner Bros contracted UA in 99 to design uniforms for Any Given Sunday and The Replacements movies. More traction. "Protect This House" marketing caimpaign in 03 was the brilliant slogan he needed to make the leap. Has been growing like wildfire since.
Now, everybody has their own moisture wicking , breathable product with some trademarked name. Nike uses "Dry Fit." All of them are made in China. The big boys own their factories in China and have complete control of all costs and logistics. Smaller companies or those just starting out buy from one of 100s of manufactures who do private label by order. The biggest drawback there is you are at the mercy of a company half a world away who is doing orders for so many different clients.
I have spent the last half year getting ready to start my own brand of athletic apparel. I have trademarked several logos and marketing slogans. Will be happy if I am half as successful as Kevin has been over 19 years. I have a five phase growth plan that spans 15 years and I am getting ready to hit the road (literally) with my phase I initiative. Wish me luck.

Under Armour was originally called Body Armour and he couldn't get a trademark for it. His brother or friend asked how his Under Armour stuff was going on accident and Kevin Plank liked it so much he immediately went off to apply for a trade mark.
He actually used the british spelling because he wanted the phone number to be 1-800-4ARMOUR instead of 44ARMOR. No joke, he said he wasn't sure if that internet thing was going to catch on.
Good luck but its pretty black and white, people aren't half as successful, they are just successful or not. He had an in at Maryland, that helped him tremendously.

When your company makes it big, please make a dry-fit type hat that is unstructured. Nobody fricking does this and it is ruining my headwear life.

You don't think they can hire someone from titlist when they signed tiger?

Do you know how easy it is to reverse engineer a golf club?

I'm pretty sure Nike could get one of their peoples to reverse engineer a club, if not hire away the original club designer.

That was my point. The clubs Tiger is playing are custom made to his specifications. Nike isn't giving him a driver on its way to Dick's.
Where I think it makes the biggest difference is in the balls. Nike's 20XI balls were shite and really opened the door for Taylormade to get some market share. If I'd of had to switch from a pro v1 to a 20xi, I'd of been pretty pissed.

Why everyone doesn't hit a pro v1x is just insane.
Best ball ever.
