IIRC, there was a site called 32 or 36 that compiled searches from all search engines. It got the most results, so I used that

I remember those days when searching for something on Lycos would bring up different results from AltaVista or whatever.

AltaVista
It was the most "accurate". Back in the day, search engines would return a lot of hits for sites that were nowhere near what you wanted. AltaVista was the most clutch for actually returning what you were looking for.
