If you like pickles and have had a Blimpie pickle, you know what I am talking about. The one at Greenwell Springs at Magnolia Bridge Road is no longer selling them. Sad day.

Is blimpies still a thing or is this post from 1994?

Blimpie is so much better than Subway it's not even funny. There was one on Severn in Metairie, and they could not deal with all the idiots that wanted their sandwiches on French bread. So they served Italian Hoagies on French bread.
They didn't last long because locals didn't want anything but Poboys, even though Hoagies were a whole different animal. To this day, I still love an Italian cold cut sandwich with oil, vinegar, oregano, lettuce and tomato. Of course, poboys are still the best, but come on, open your minds a little!

quote:Back in 1994 I was as hopeful and delusional about Blimpie as you are today. But then, reality kicked in. All those locations that were once open in Baton Rouge are now close because they are in fact NOT so much better than Subway. Customers vote with their feet.

But I agree with your assessment of those ignorant rednecks or coonasses or whatever those closed minded morons are in Metairie you were talking about.

Not delusional about Blimpie and Subway. Subway's food sucks. Their bread tastes funky. Blimpie had good food.
It's obvious today that Subway won the war, but that does not translate into a better restaurant. Subway's franchises were cheap, and the company blanketed the country with them. So much so, that franchisees were suing because Subway was putting them too close together and they were cannibalizing each other.
Bottom line: Blimpie > Subway

My go to at Blimpie was the imitation seafood sub. I don't think they make it anymore.
In my experience, Blimpie's problem was very slow service. As slow as those ignorant, closed minded rednecks, coonasses and moronic morons in Metairie . No one wants to waste their lunch hour standing in line.

What made them slow was what made them better than Subway. They used to slice their meat to order.
Or, at least that was one of the things. Their bread was much better as well.

I don't go to any subway anymore. Not since I saw roaches running on the glass by the meats when I was about to order. Been about 6 months.

It's difficult to agree that Blimpie is "better" than Subway when there are like 5 Blimpies in Louisiana and over 400 Subways. Obviously, the state of Louisiana disagrees, aside from the enlightened two hundred or so people that frequent Blimpies in LA. That's right. Subway has more locations than Blimpie has customers.

I'm talking like 20 years ago dude, i.e., last time I recall seeing or stepping foot in a Blimpie.
Settle down, Mr. Market Expert.

Aren't all of Subway's "meats" turkey-based?
Aside from that, can't stand the trademark Subway "smell". Nasssssy.
