I'm not sure the act of driving a race car is athletic. I'd say it is not. I don't think whatever endurance component exists is really a determining factor in separating the good from the best. The act of swinging a golf club is absolutely athletic.

Gary Player is 78 and is a professional golfer. Not an athlete.

Plus the winner is determined by judges. Definitely not a sport.

If it's played at the ncaa level or in the Olympics, then it is a sport. Golf is played at the ncaa level, therefore a sport. Case Closed.

Gary Player at 78 can do more push-ups than 99% of the hacks on this message board. Dude is for sure and athlete.

And stop the fricking questioning of if baseball pitchers are athletes. Yes, they are fricking elite athletes.

So a business man negotiating a business deal does the same shite, does that make him an athlete too?

What about a lawyer? He bluffs for a living.

And just because john daly was a fat slob, doesn't mean golfers aren't athletes

him being able to play as long as he did at the level he did despite his physical condition just shows you how great of an athlete he was.

I know scratch golfers that weigh 275 lbs, smoke, drink and cant run a mile thats have been playing golf for 30 + years....no way I'm calling them an athlete.

But just because John Daly got paid to play golf, you're going to call him an athlete? I dont think so pal

My point was if you can play that sport at the very highest level after the age of 50, then that sport does not require you to be an athlete.

There are 9 players over 50 in the Masters.
