And as far as racecar drivers, you bet you're arse they're athletes.

I'm not sure the act of driving a race car is athletic. I'd say it is not. I don't think whatever endurance component exists is really a determining factor in separating the good from the best.

The act of swinging a golf club is absolutely athletic.

Go walk 18 holes(or more) with a full golf bag on your back when it's 90+ degrees outside and 100% humidity and tell me golfers are not athletes.

Should engineers be called professionals rather than glorified operators?

So what about pool players? Foosball players? Shuffle board? Darts?

All require playing defense. Are those guys athletes?

lol, no it's not. It makes a good athlete great. But you can have all the mental focus you want, if you don't have the physical gifts, you aren't gonna be very good

sport

noun
1. an activity involving physical exertion and skill in which an individual or team competes against another or others for entertainment.
In golf you can argue that the players don't necessarily play each other directly, they play the course. But their scores are what determine the winner. It's like golf falls in a gray area. It's sort of like NASCAR...the drivers are driving the track, but it seems like they are more directly interacting with each other and that affects their performance.

To me, if I'm being a technical megadouche, golf is an obstacle course competition. Not a sport.

Yall are confused. Just cause your clumsy arse plays a sport, doesn't mean you're an "athlete" in the way yall are thinking. It means you're doing something athletic. But Hell, everybody is an athlete at some level.

Go to Nola Motorsports and do the league kart racing and comeback and talk to me how racers are not athletes.

The golf swing is an athletic movement. Golfers are athletes. Whether golf is a sport or not is a different subject. And I think it's silly to argue that it's not

Gymnasts don't directly compete against each other, they compete against the obstacles. Not a sport?
