Garnett
Wade
Durant
Pippen

I would take Garnett first because of his legendary defense and great versatility. Wade would be second. He might be the closest player to a young Jordan we've seen since MJ's retirement. Just an unbelievably explosive athlete, very efficient and a phenomenal playoff performer. Durant is 3rd. He's already a top 5 scorer of all-time and his all-around game has improved by leaps and bounds since his rookie year. Finally, Pippen is last. Great player but I don't think he's a player you can win a championship with as the #1 offensive option. His scoring ability just wasn't there with the all-time greats to play the game. So I have to put him last.

why Pippen over Wade?

Positional flexibility.

ETA: Though I'll add comparing defensive play in this generation to Scotty's isn't exactly apples to apples.

Wade played solid defense and would protect the rim. Add 25 ppg for a career and I don't know what else you could ask of a shooting guard.

Wade won't get the respect he deserves on here because a lot of people on this board don't like him

He sure is underrated on this board. Yikes.

Pippen is criminally underrated today by those too young to remember. That's a fact.

OTOH, there's some belief out there that he was essentially the 2nd best player in the league. There are stories of him in practice besting Jordan 1-on-1 like no other player could. There's his ridiculous season when Jordan was playing baseball, he led the team in every major stat, IIRC only the second time that had been done ever. And they were good. He's arguably the best defending sf of all time.

And so maybe you overcompensate in your opinion on him, and base it on what Pippen could've been. Give him kudos for having an incredible lack of ego. It seems silly to make a statistical argument against him, HE PLAYED WITH JORDAN. Every one of the other guys has been the #1 option for clear stretches of their prime. You wanna know how good he was? Watch a lot of tape. It's not in the stats.

i grew up with Pippen. I vividly remember 90s basketball. And i think he is an all time great. Just not better than any of these guys.

how do you rank them?

He was. He was an elite defender, great shooter, pretty damn good isolation player, excellent finisher. That was all apparent when he was playing with the GOAT.

If you draft him #1 and commit to him as a franchise player, build a team around him, there's no question you could have a perennial playoff team. Would he reach the height of these guys? Who knows?

I think it's too hypothetical, I explained in my post above.

One full season in his prime, and they were a shot away from the East Finals.

Do I think a team could win a championship with a top 50 guy all time? Yes, yes I do.
