I never brought up my career, only that your all's lack of input makes me think you either didn't have one or wish you didn't. Also, if a person went to a D3 school, there's a pretty good chance his coach was from a higher division, which means they still know more than you fricking morons. And I went a little higher than D3, but that's beside the point.
If you went higher than D3 then you probably do have more knowledge than most here about basketball. Myself included.
Most of the posters here who bring up "experience" are former high school players or maybe some D3ers and it's hard not to laugh when they mention experience as reasons why they should be taken more seriously.
That being said, it doesn't automatically make you right. And you are certainly wrong about him being an NBA PG. I like what another poster said about positions becoming more and more vague. Simmons is an excellent ball handler and passer. I think he'll be a point forward type, a la Lebron James. But he still won't be an NBA PG. I'm not sure he's athletic enough to guard the 1 in the NBA. Beyond that, his skill set would be best utilized as a SF, where an NBA team can run the offense through him on the block, or using him as the pick man on a pick and roll. And while Lebron does play some time at the point, he definitely is still a SF. (No fricking clue who the person was saying Magic wasn't a PG). But I think we should pump the brakes a little before thinking Simmons can do all of what Lebron can. That's not a knock on Simmons, Lebron is just perhaps the most gifted basketball player in history.

Going to be 100% honest with you, you're not going to find a serious discussion on this website note the people that are talking shite to you, a bunch of people with 5000+ posts on a message board. Most of them legitimately come here because they don't have anything going on in the real world and want to be noticed, make shitty jokes and maybe get a laugh or two, and make internet friends.
A solid majority of these people take every chance they get to start petty arguments and call somebody dumb for starting a thread that they disagree with when they legitimately have no fricking clue what they're talking about. I know that you came here with a random opinion hoping for a substance filled discussion with counterpoints, stats, and examples but you're just not going to find it here. You seem like you'd be ok with being wrong as long as somebody gave you a well thought out, well presented argument but you're just going to get 1000 responses from people that are stupid as frick but desperate to be right all the time without actually having to know anything. The no-life 5000 post crowd takes it upon themselves to run off anybody new and call you out for "not having friends" while they all have a circle jerk and agree with each others' moronic opinions

But people that went higher than D3 in their sport still have to deal with your dumb arse repeating that they were a high school athlete just because they don't brag about their accomplishments right? It makes you look like a huge hypocrite when you sit there and make up your own narrative of what somebody else did athletically to make yourself feel better about the fact that you never played sports but try to act like you'll accept that someone knows more than you if they played at a high level

appreciate the advice. I'll just stick to reading & occasionally posting on other threads.

I played sports.
I don't mention it because I realize it was years ago, not at a high level, and not relevant to any of the discussion.
Why are you still babbling about the whole "experience" issue? I admitted that he probably knows more than me about basketball. That doesn't make him right. Nor does it mean he knows more about the NBA. NBA is way different from college, including style of play and strategy.
And I don't feel bad at all about my athletic career. Nor should anyone. I played football at a high level in high school. No other sports. Nothing beyond that. If someone had never played football before, I still wouldn't just disregard their opinion. But I'm not very narrow minded. And if you think anyone should "feel bad" about their athletic history. It's sports. It's a game. After high school, for 99%, it's over and meaningless. I assure you no one feels bad about what they did or didn't do because hopefully they grew up and did something with their life.
With that being said, can we move on to discuss the OP? Or do you have no interest in my previous post discussing the actual OP?
Feel free to review my post and pick out where I was wrong, concerning Simmons and the NBA.

So just to be clear- you think all of these posters are losers? Yet you're actively posting on this message board, arguing with all of them?

This is rich though.
What "data, analysis, stats" have you presented in this thread? In fact, what substance have you provided at all in this thread that pertains to the discussion of the content in the OP?
Seriously.
Anything. At. All.
I'll sit here and wait.

Why do I believe you? Like, I bet you're literally refreshing the page axiously waiting for him to respond. But we have serious issues & no friends?
I'm going to bed. Gotta work in the morning. I appreciate the one not-so-retarded post you submitted though. You had a few good points Hope y'all had a good Easter.

Yeah that's right he will be a small forward but he does have PG skills. I watched the semi-final and final high school championship games and the best part of his game is his ball handling and passing.
He is not going to be a great scorer. At least it will be that way if he doesn't improve his outside shot which is not very good. In high school he was mainly scoring on fast break and dunks around the basket.
He is good driving to the basket but even a good college defense can contain that let alone the pros. Most people that don't know the game and only equate great players with how many points they score, are going to be disappointed.
His offensive game actually reminds me a lot of Jarrel Martin with much smoother moves, a higher basketball iq and the previously mentioned ball handling and great passing.

When did I say this.

well if you dumbasses played ball, contribute something other than and to the conversation. Otherwise I'll assume you're a troll and you never played. I don't think I'm anything special because I played ball. But it does give me an idea of what I'm talking about. You laughing at the post makes you look stupid & none of these answers as to why he can't play PG make any sense.
This is you saying you are going to assume people that are posting are trolls and never played the game. Insinuating that someone never plays the game makes them a troll for posting something that goes against what you said in this thread. Then you go on to say because you played ball growing up that makes you knowledgeable of the situation. Which is not so.
quote:
just because someone handles the ball the most or brings it up the court doesn't make the the point guard
quote:
Again, when did I say this.
You've been touting how LeBron James was the point guard and how guys who carrying the ball up the court are PGs. He is NOT the point guard. Just because someone brings the ball up the court the majority of the time, that doesn't make him a point guard.
Point guard =/= primary ball handler. Point guard is a position. Not a job. A PG normally leads the team in assists but that doesn't mean just because you lead the team in assists you are a PG.
Kobe Bryant, Dwyane Wade, James Harden, Carmelo, Lebron James etc.. These guys would normally carry the ball up the court for their teams and the primary ball handlers. NONE are point guards.

Most people who've never played just see a 6'8 guy & laugh at the thought. I understand, it's not their fault. They don't know.
Magic Johnson was a point guard at 6'9" which is closer to what Simmons actually is. Up close he does not look 6'10". Simmons will wind of spending a great deal of time handling the ball on the point in both the break and half-court sets, regardless of what his starting position is. He's not going to be drafted and told to learn a new position. Guy is super smooth with the ball in his hands.

I see a lot of people bringing up Magic in here, but just because both are tall and both can handle the ball does not mean that they will both play the same position in the nba. Magic was one of the greatest of all time. Simmons has well above average handles for his size, but that doesn't put him on Magics level. And the poster who said that Simmons has better handles than some NBA pgs right now has got to be kidding.

Feel the same way. I don't think he's a prototypical SF or PG, but I think (because of the way he plays as well as his skill set) he'd be more effective at the 1. Game wise, I think he's closer to magic than LBJ but I'm not saying he's as good as either. I think he'll mostly look to attack when he has a mismatch because it's the smart play. Other-wise he's looking for an open team mate. Most SF's don't do that. Off the top of my head I can think of 2 (LBJ, Iguodala) and both can & have played 1 for at least stretches of games throughout their career. The only thing Benny wouldn't be able to do at the 1 is guard the other teams 1. Therefore, I would have a smaller (6'1-6'4) 2 guard to match up with the other teams 1. I'd have a 3&D wing to guard the best scoring wing & let Benny guard the other wing. Give me a stretch 4 (Bosh, Davis, Love, R. Anderson, M. Morris, J. Parker) to spread the court & a big man that can score & rebound (Cousins, Gasol, Gasol, Howard).
Off the bench, I'd have One small ball handler (Augustin, N. Robinson, A. Brooks) & the rest big shooters & defenders (Gibson, S. Adams, T. Snell, S. Hawes, D. Cunningham, Q. Pondexter, J. Lamb, T. Allen, M. Thornton.) I might put a Napier or K.Marshall or someone at the end of the bench in case we needed one more ball handler.

he is going to play small forward. Yes he will handle the ball a lot and have a lot of assists but it will be from the small forward position

Any coach will tell you there is nothing more intimidating and difficult to prepare for and defend against than a big (6-8 or bigger) point guard. Simmons is one of those guys, a once in a decade type talent who at his size can play the position.
