Just got off of work with my first good (or bad) story in the sevice industry. This older gentleman walked into the bar tonight and sat down. Came off as a real nice guy, orders an appetizer and a drink and ask me to give him a few minutes to look at the menu. I give him about 3-4 until he put down his menu and I procede to walk up to him and ask if hes ready to order. Word for word this is how the conversation went:

"Are you about ready to order sir?"
"Yeah, ill take half shirmp half oyster po-boy"
"Let me go to the kitchen real quick and make sure that we can do that wothout an upcharge"
*oyster and shrimp are different prices so I figured ill be doing him a favor*

He then goes to tell me that hes ordered it 3 times already from the restaurant and begins to go on a rage-raises his voice to say "you know what, frick it cancel my order" throws his silver ware on the table, and gets up to walk out. At this point I guess he had an epiphany to share a little wisdom and yelled "you want a tip? Quit working in a restraunt and go get a real fricking job". Then storms out.

Que 21 year old me standing there wonder what a "real job" would be for a college student.

TL;DR: Older guy threw a fit because he knew the price of an off menu item.

P.S. If you post on here, thank you for the advice

Mayne, dealing with entitled customers was the worst.

Just bring me my damn food. I'll worry about how much it costs.

I judge people by how they treat service people. This guy was a dick and is probably an unhappy a-hole in life who decided to show you who is "boss".

You tried to do your job, unfortunately, having to deal with the general public makes it necessary for you to have to deal with assholes. Don't let it get you down.

Just like all entitled service workers, you probably expected a tip.

Tips should be abolished.

People treat service industry workers like shite. It's pathetic... Working with the general public will really open your eyes.

CSB. Is this your first night working in the service industry? What that dude did is peanuts. Wait until the family of 5 comes in, orders, eats their food and THEN complains the order was wrong and demands the food for free and then they don't leave a tip.

I feel like the top piece of bread would feel good nestled in the crack of your arse. I'd check it out next time he comes in.

Never screw with anyone who touches your food.

If adolf hitler was serving me dinner, I'd ask how his day was going and wish him good luck before we ever started.

I always enjoyed openly laughing at people who got angry. They were always confused as to why I was laughing. It was great, because what are they going to do? Tell your boss? "Your employee laughed.."?

Then I worked at a bar, which means kicking people out and even being a dick to them when they were being psycho was fine because they were likely drunk.

Ah, I miss the service industry.

No doubt you left out the part between your casual statement about checking the price and his screaming obscenities and storming out of a place he is clearly a regular at.

Oyster and Shrimp Poboy = .5 * oyster poboy + .5* shrimp poboy + trouble fee

Seems simple

Had you not offered to check, he'd have been irate with an upcharge. No winning this one for you.

In lieu of a military draft, everybody in the USA should be required to serve two (2) years as a waitress, waiter, bar back or bartender during the ages 18-24.
