I didn't feel like this was a bad decision until I heard him say that he believes he is a first round player. That is simply not doing the research... It's really sad because he could have been a great at LSU, but instead he will leave before winning a single tournament game and go down in history as just an okay player for us.

A free college degree would be more valuable than what he will bring in the future unfortunately. Good luck to him and his family.

Elbert Robinson's progress is crucial to next year's team IMO.
Absolutely correct. We need 20 minutes/ 8pts./8 boards.

The team next year could have been really special if he returned, but now, and I hate to say it, we desperately need Malone or Robinson III to really step it up to have that 3rd big man in the rotation. I'd hate to see Victor and Simmons as our only viable front court options. Maybe we strike gold in Ray Kasongo, but I doubt he'll be much better than what we already have.

Thanks for the time here Mr. Mickey. I don't support the decision itself but support the player. Best of luck. Once a tiger always a tiger.

He'll be lucky if he gets drafted...really bad decision.

I think one of the three (Robinson, Malone, Epps) could easily step up. Epps is the wildcard in this race... He would have some of the same difficulties as Mickey trying to guard thicker guys, but his athleticism could be a real asset down low. He could easily transition down low to get more PT next year because I don't think he gets any time on the perimeter with the players we have coming in.

If he devotes half the effort he did to losing weight towards improving his skill and learning to play in the system, Elbert is going to surprise a lot of people next year. If he can make himself a 20+ min a game player while going for 8 and 8, our depth will be just fine if we stay healthy. Malone can rack up minutes in games that aren't very close giving our starters a rest throughout the season.
I honestly am still very excited for next year. We will be young and will have new leaders on the team. It's not so bad when you consider our last 2 leaders. One didn't want the ball in crunch time and the other's effort was questioned many time throughout the season. If these freshman step up, we are still going to make a lot of noise.

Completely agree here.

From the beginning of the year I expected to lose both Mickey and Martin. I've been excited for next year the whole time. The slight chance of keeping one of them got me excited, but I never really expected it. Still think this team can compete for an SEC Championship.
Notre Dame played a lineup that had 4 guards often and look how they did... LSU could do similar at times if necessary.

He's a 4, period.
There aren't many NBA 4s (even small ball) at 6'7". I understand what his game is, that doesn't make him a 4, it makes him a bad fit for the 3 where he would have to play.
The average 4 height in the NBA is 6’9.5". The mode height is 6'9". The guys who have Mickey's size are Maxiell and Blair. Their games are vastly different than Mickey's in terms of their rebounding and defensive prowess. The average 4 weight in the NBA is 246.
Now consider the 3. Average 6’7.75" Mode 6’7"/6’8" (Tied). Not to be rude, but guess where yer boy is going to have to try to make it in the NBA. He isn't a 4. Period.

Not ready...I'm a huge proponent of guys leaving early...when they're ready...Shaq was PAST ready...this guy is rough around the edges.

Brandon Bass is a 4 at 6'6.25". That said, Bass is much stronger than Mickey and has a much better jump shot.
I'm not trying to rag on Mickey, but his game just doesn't seem to translate to the NBA. As such, he should have probably stayed and got a degree, but only he can chase his dreams.

All we have will be Victor and Simmons who will play 35+ minutes per game and will get worn down come tourney time just like Mickey and Martin.
Again, please stop with the "fatigue" excuse. College players don't get worn down. They have young legs, only play 30-ish games a year, usually only 2 per week.
That's nowhere near the NBA grind of 82+ games, 4 per week for grown men.

Funny how most of the a-holes on here get so butt hurt that he is leaving and bash the guy, yet the reason they are so butt hurt and pissing all over him is because they want him to return to school continue to play for LSU. Our fan base has so many dicks
Lighten up Francis....he's not getting good advice but more power to him if he thinks he will get drafted.

Skillset is the only thing that matters. If you cant shoot no NBA team is going to play you at the 3. You play your position in the NBA generally, it's not like college. The only thing he can play in the NBA is the 4, which is why his stock is so low, being that he's only 6'7-6'8.

Come on. He is second all time in career blocks only to Shaq. He was much better than an average player for LSU.

maybe I'm in the minority but I don't think the line of thinking of, "he can't raise his stock any more by coming back" is a good reason.
...and I just don't know if it's true.
If Mickey had come back and improved half as much next year as he did this year, the guy would be All SEC type of level and I think would be a legitimate bottom of the first round candidate.
I don't think he'll be drafted at all...and if he is, it will be late in the 2nd round.
Having said all of that, I wish him the best of luck. I just hope its not a decision that he regrets.

Good luck to JM, but LSU is now like Kentucky South with its recruiting and I see Coach Johnny coaching like a Tom Izzo clone from here on out.
