That's fine and all, but if religion is the most important aspect of your life- wouldn't you want to read the word of all different kinds of religions?
That also goes for other things people unquestionably live by based on the norms of society-such as monogamy or unconventional sex/relationships.

If you devote your life to your family, chances are you didn't stop your search for a wife after your first girlfriend.
Once they pick a wife or a religion, most folks generally expect and plan to stick with their choice. Nothing really odd about that. You generally know what you like and don't like, even without in-depth study of the options open to you.
If something is working for you and you are happy with it, there is nothing left to do but enjoy it and be happy with it.
With that said, I agree with the gist of your post and think that everyone should independently choose their religion rather than just blindly adopt what their family has always done.

I did for a long time too.
Was so much easier to just be able to throw off religion.
Now oddly, we pretend Catholic, for the kids, as it's easier on them at Catholic school to be Catholic. If they find faith, then good for them. When they are 18 I'll tell them my views.
As for now I just lie. I don't take communion anymore out of respect, but I do still attend Mass every once in a while, but all my family knows my views.

Those "god first life" stickers creep me the frick out. As if salt life and the spinoffs aren't bad enough. These people need to think about what they're really saying. God FIRST? Not family first?
I really don't know why people are comfortable with the story of Abraham taking Issac up to a mount and trying to murder him based simply on a whim from God. Kind of seems like something a violent alcoholic would say after an all night binge, and then be shocked the next morning when he found out what he said and that he was actually crazy enough to do it.
But this begs to question that if you truly put God first, and let's say you go insane and start hearing voices in your head that you're convinced are God and they tell you to do the same thing, would you do it? If someone truly puts God above everything, they'd say yes, which is really quite horrifying.

Morality and religion is mutually exclusive. I have no faith, yet me and my kids understand right and wrong based on compassion and empathy.
Also, how can a god that makes light (ie the sun) and then makes man (in his own image).... then the sun gives that man a fricking brutal sunburn and skin cancer just for being outside. If that is not enough to prove it is all stupid, then nothing is.

I'm not so much of someone who follows a religion per say. I believe religion, which is man's law to follow God is sometimes misguided. Man tries to put their rules on equal ground with Gods laws which has created too much distain for God. I myself am a Christian who asked the very question your asking. How do I know I'm following the right "course". I heard a pastor sum it up quite simple. First, considering there is a God and Devil, which I do, put yourself in the devils shoes. You hate God and all of God's people. If your going to set out to destroy both, what and who do you attack? Now ask yourself which two groups of people on earth are constantly attacked? Buddhism? Nope...Hinduism? Nope...Quakers? Nope...Islam? Lol, just the opposite. These "religions" bear no threat to Satan. Guess who does, Christians and Jews(Gods chosen people). This is very simple to observe if you want to know the truth. When I heard this simple thought, I knew I was making the right decision.
So this is why Christians and Jews are always feeling persecuted and act uppity all at the same time.

Count me in the faker club. It's not all conformity either, I believe it is a net positive for society and morality. My wife and I have literally never gone to church together, but we go when visiting the extended family, and when we have children we will take them. What I actually believe spiritually just doesn't matter.

If you're a non-believer, why would you want your kids in Catholic school? That is your kid's education

I tell my kids to go to church with friends if they want...but I tell them my views now. They are honor kids and can understand. I am not forcing either view on them. They laugh all the time about other people's weird views of fairy tale Santa clause zombie Jesus stories.

I can say yes, God is first in my life. It's actually on a chalkboard in my kitchen
ETA: I worded that poorly. The best I can say is I try my best to keep God first I mess up a lot.

Catholic Schools are the best pre-college education you can get locally short of sending them to a $20k a year school.
The public schools I went to school at are all ghetto now.
Yes, you don't have to be Catholic to go to Catholic school. But it's easier on the kids to not be the ones who have to sit out of all the Catholic activities, and I do think it's the best of The Christian faiths, it takes work and dedication to be a catholic.

Jesus Christ is and should be first in my life. I count it a blessing that he gives me each day and that I should live to serve him in all that I do. Next Sunday I will celebrate a risen Lord. I am truly thankful for that.

Why would you take your kids to church if you don't believe in the teachings? to raise fakers as well?
Seems like a waste of a few hours every week.

The secular side of parochial schools is superior to many, many public systems.

The story of Lot alone, makes me not want to believe.
Throughout the Bible God kills people, and tests people. What does Satan do? Give man all the knowlegge they need to advance as a species and get out of that garden.
Then every time man tried to achieve something great, God would destroy it. Until Jesus was Born, then God stopped doing anything at all.
I also hate that people thank God when a doctor saves a life, and then thank God when he takes a life and then admonish the doctor for not doing enough.
The whole thing is just to keep people from thinking they have no point in life, but if you open your eyes, you can see that just living life IS the point.

Is this not a disturbing thought to most people?
The fact that we have millions of people in this country whose central life premise is essentially a story they have taken their parents' word for is definitely somewhat unsettling.
Sure there some who have seriously investigated their religious beliefs, and there are many "Christians" who use the label socially but really don't base their life on that theology. The fact of the matter is however that there are many people who vote, raise their children, donate money, etc. based largely on nothing more than subjective faith derived from belief in what they were taught.
