Oh man. Hope that doesn't mean what they are implying.
Or I guess, the other way, you kind of hope they are. Means the plane was functionally fine.

Okay, so either the pilot went crazy or a fool locked himself out.
My money is on crazy.

How the hell do they know this?

I think the guy passed out or had a heart attack and the door could only be opened from the inside. Crazy there isn't a way to override that.

They reinforced cockpit doors after September 11th. While that will protect the pilots from passengers it could have negative consequences.
Could plane cockpits be too secure?
"Nobody ever thought about having to protect the passengers from the pilots," Jetblue founder and former CEO David Neeleman says.

What a fricked up way to die.
I heard that they don't know much about the co-pilot at the moment

Should have video feed from cockpit on future flights.

The crash was like 40 minutes into the flight right? Did he not potty before takeoff? Geez.

How the frick do they know this? Everyone died.

Release the names of the pilots. We can figure this out real fast.

Its fricking 2015 and we still rely on ancient technology to record flight details and audio. I know the same was said about the Malaysia flights, but enough is enough. They need to come up with something better. Pilots need to get their heads out pf their asses if they don't want to sacrifice some privacy to help further the safety of passengers. All of my communications at work are recorded real time. I don't see why they should get some special privilege.

Like someone said, we may get the answer just by the name of the co-pilot.

Ok, pilot locked out of cockpit
Pilot in cockpit had a medical emergency and died/incapacitated.
Isn't the airplane on autopilot? Simply because the pilot died/incapacitate shouldn't mean the plane would start a descent and crash.
And...no pilot would leave the cockpit unless they were in hands off cruise mode.

Holy shite. Sully sullenberger did not have that in his differential yesterday when he was analyzing why there was no distress call during the descent. This is crazy.

so we can put lane correction and object detection/avoidance in cars but not in planes??! come on mannnnn

Tin Foil Hat [ON] OFF
The fact that he crashed it into a remote stretch of mountains may have just been opportunity... but he could've crashed it into a city if he wanted extreme loss of life.
Is it possible the pilot's family was threatened in some way and he felt like he was forced to do this?

In all likelihood the guy was just a crazy, selfish...
