Especially since this year is not counting against students anyway?

My wife is a teacher in MS and they are doing the trial run this year even though the legislature is doing away with next year and creating their own test. Why? because they have to test them somehow was her answer.

It really is crazy, it is like they have to test them just because they need to test them, they have no other reason.

My son's principal told me they don't know when or if they will even be able use the results from this test next year. I asked her what was even the point of the test was and she said they were required to give it.

Do any of you have any links to back up what you're saying or are you just talking out the side of your arse?

Every principal in MS I've contacted this week has been involved in PARCC testing last week and this week.

I am a teacher. I am also privy to our admin and the district's reasoning for testing. Everything that has been said is 100% true. We simply test to test because students are required to test...and schools/teachers must be assessed by tests...

Money grab. Friends of politicians developed the tests and they need to sell them, so... force states to buy tests, friends get rich and donate to campaigns.

These last two weeks of school have been a waste at best (instructionally speaking).

No, all comments are legit. Too many links to post to verify, but in La.

1) Results wont be in until Oct. By then Students will be placed in various programs by some "other" methodology

2) Results cannot be used to pass/fail any student

3) Results cannot be used to negatively evaluate any employee

4) Results will produce a school's report card grade, ONLY AFTER it has been curved to match the current years grade

5) A new governor will be sworn in Jan, and only one candidate is currently in support of continuing PARCC testing. So this will be the only year that this test it will be given

6) There is already a new curriculum ready to roll out once the new state supt. is appointed

7) BIGGEST waste of resources in La in quite some time

Pretty much, you can thank No Child Left Behind and the way Federal school funding works for that one.

Probably, but for the most part, the same companies were developing and/or administering the previous high-stakes assessments. I doubt PARCC will be better, but many of those state tests were already crappy. In other words, not much is really changing in terms of testing. Why are so many outraged now but weren't before?

The the schools report card is depending on how well or bad the kids test. If they don't take the test the kid gets a 0 which will affect the schools overall grade?

The school grades are going to be compared to nationwide schools vs just state schools as they have in the past.

Yep. Same for text books. EBR has a decade-long contract for a math textbook that they can't even use.

Well, I'm sure the whole spying on millions of twitter and facebook accounts by the testing company, and then turning students into the state for investigation/discipline because they are too damn cheap to produce multiple forms of their test, pissed off some folks

but hey, why should I care? I mean its OK for the school to take my 16 year old for an abortion due to her privacy rights, but she better damn sure not post anything about a test question, because she has no privacy expectations on her own FB or twitter account

That doesn't say anything about the test is a waste of time. It also doesn't say anything about not giving the test next year. I fact it says the test WILL be given in 2016.
