actually it was a bit of a letdown to me, I had already guessed Mikes history for the most part, (he did something wrong as a cop, but probably for the right reason", which is of course how it turned out.
The catch now is why is Mike still at odds with Kalees mom, (his daugther inlaw), is it because she is really peoed at him or because they are keeping some distance as a precaution? This is now the burning question for me.

These are not the same, yet I do see how Mike took Jessie in towards the end to help him and the symbolism.
yea I don't really think he "took him in" as much as it was simply Mike and Jesse gained loyalty for each other through circumstances. Mike had no use for Jesse, who was brought in as a ploy by Gus, and until Mike saved Jesse( episode where Lorenzio or whoever, the nephew of Hector opened fire with the sniper rifle on the chicken ranch) and then in Mexico when Jesse actually killed Lorenzio and made sure Mike got help for his wounds.
I'm sure Mike did want to see Jesse get out at the end, and knew as long as he was near Walter, he would probably get messed over in the end. Just like Mike did, by Walter.

Um mm no. All Mike wanted was Saul to spill his coffee on the Philly cop
The cops and folks in the lock up didn't know that. Word of mouth from folks in the DA's office and police department gets around. This is something I know a little bit about.

Agree. Jesse only started wanting to get out when shite started to get real and he saw how deep in he was.
Yea at the end, he had 5 million(or at least it was owed to him) and he wanted out, same as Mike.
He finally showed a little sense at the end, when Walt/Heisenberg said "I'm not in the meth business OR the money business, I'm in the Empire business", and Jesse said "Is a meth empire really something to be that proud of?".

He was right though, all Mike really wanted him for was because he figured he was shady enough to go for the coffee spill ploy... and as usual, Mike was right.

Just watched. Great episode. Tiny bit predictable with Mike killing the cops for killing his son, but the performance made it worth the ride.
Are we overestimating how much later seasons will be involved with characters from BB? Seems like this show could go its own way and not be relegated to a prequel. It's holding its own no doubt.

I really wouldnt call it a prequel, it's a hybrid of a show that can show so many different elements.
Hell, season three we may see Walter sitting and having a conversation about Jesse's rehab. As he leaves mike comes in and they talk about something all different.
Or something happens at the cinnabon and someone needs legit legal advice.

Have we seen anything regarding present day aside from the opening Cinnabon scene in the premier?

THEN, he went and sat outside of his daughter-in-law's house. She drove by and stopped, but wouldn't talk to him. What gives? It may be after he told her about living with it. Time jumps and all. Not 100% on that though
He came and talked to her on the couch after he was questioned by the cops and read the detective's notes. He called his DiL and said we need to talk because he saw where she called the detectives

Yeah. I think his take on talking to her went from first not wanting to tell her anything that she could tell the police that would give them a lead on him (or also maybe that if she withheld it could get her in trouble on obstruction or some similar stuff) to realizing that she needed closure real bad.
Then he was walking the tightrope of telling her what he could to convince her her husband (and his son) was a "good cop" and strongly inferring that his killers were brought to justice without implicitly implicating himself.

I don't want it to be a prequel. Just seems everyone is hoping that a ton of major BB characters will get background information revealed about them. Id rather see new characters form.

why do you think they are at odds?

when he told her "you know what happened to them" (the two cops that killed his son), she had to understand, he did it.

Wonder if Mike killed those two guys for killing his son?
I love the writing/directing on this show. I had a sneaking feeling for a little while that maybe it was MIKE that killed his own son and that was why he was in the "drinking spiral" after his son's death. And it seemed to me like the story wanted me to think that... until Mike walks plants something in the dirty cops car (ends up being the gun, of course) and tells the dirty cops that he knows they did it.
Then I was like WHEW! Cuz we all knew Mike was dirty, but I didn't want Mike to be "knock off his own son" dirty. And the reveal at the end by Mike to his d-in-law made me feel even better.
My son loved the original BB but I only watched the occasional episode. Definitely going to go back and watch them all know. BCS has me hooked.

then, I'm talking about in NM, you said yourself he read in the detective notes that she called them. That would be a good reason right there. They clearly aren't talking much at all when the show started, so they are both now somehow in NM and aren't actually talking much. Either he's maintaining a low profile(using his real name can't be that low) or she just won't talk to him.

that is in the present(of the BCS storyline)

the second he broke into that cop car I knew, and then when he saunters over to them at the table all drunk like, hugs them and says "I know it was you" under his breath, that's ice.

They WEREN'T talking much prior to Mike having the heart to heart from the couch. Now, it appears, that relationship gets put on some solid ground (as Mike and his granddaughter see each other regularly during the Breaking Bad years). I think they made it quite clear that Mike opening up about his son's death and the fact that he got revenge for it has ingratiated himself with his daughter-in-law again.
Here's the basic timeline...
1. Picks Mike up from train station
2. They discuss the phone call that her husband had with Mike, DIL isn't buying it. Pissed at Mike.
3. We see Mike outside of their house and the awkward stare down with DIL from previous episode
4. Mike steals cop's notebook and sees mention of Stacey calling them. She was not calling them about Mike but about the fact that she thinks her husband may have been dirty based upon the money she found.
5. They talk at the house. Mike swears his son wasn't dirty. He leaves.
6. He returns to the house and puts it all on the table for DIL to hear. She comforts him.
I would imagine that she's now all in on protecting Mike from any Philadelphia inquiries and on-board with anything Mike tells her to do.
