Has anyone ever dealt with nerve damage before?

I had an accident in January and I'm still dealing with nerve issues. My doctors have told me that no nerves were severed and that they are just aggravated from the shock of the accident. Has anyone ever dealt with this type of nerve damage and how long did it take for it to go away?

Took 6 months for normal feeling to return to hands and toes after a 340 mile kayak race. All good now, but I was worried for a bit.

Yes.
Surgery in right hand. I have pain in my pinky that bothers me from time to time. The surgery was over 10 years ago.
Had surgery on my face and lost feeling on the right side of my face for over a year. Surgery was almost 4 years ago and I do get pain from time to time.
It sucks. Just deal.

Jesus, and I thought doing a half iron was tough! How long does that take?

I had nerve damage in my arm from a car accident and couldn't move several fingers very well on my right hand for almost a year. My bird finger on my right hand can't be raised but can clinch just fine. that is permanent. they said they could do surgery, but it doesn't hamper me in any way.

That's what I've been doing but it has gotten old quick. I have to use a computer a lot and not being able to feel my fingers makes it frustrating. Were you on a nerve medication? They have me on 100mg Lyrica and it helps some but doesn't get rid if it.

Took me 64.5 hours and I finished in 23rd place out of 155 male solo racers

Never got on Lyrica. I just kind of breathe and relax and work through the pain. It's second nature to me now, tbh.
Don't get me wrong, it sucks. To this day you can just walk up to me and just lightly grab my right pinky and I'll be in excruciating pain.
My face? Don't get me started. I'll get sharp stabbing pains out of nowhere or it will just start feeling weird.
I just try to relax and work through it. I do yoga and foam roll muscles, so I kinda get used to working through pain.
I don't like stuff like Lyrica bc of the side effects I hear about.

I can deal with the pain, it's the lack of dexterity that is annoying. It's the ulnar nerve I believe that is damaged. It hurts from the elbow down and is a dull ache. Feels like my wrist and fingers are broke. I'm use to the pain but still not use to the lack of feeling in my pinky, ring, and middle finger.

Cut through nerves in leg for emergency surgery some years Back
For a month the nerve damage would make my skin feel like it was on fire if I stretched too far walking
It gradually subsided into numbness
Most of the feeling came back. Minor numn spot on my quad persists 6 years later

If I remember correctly you had a pretty major injury. Might take a long time for that to heal properly.

Id say be glad you felt it immediately. Wife has residual nerve damage that needed surgery a year later.

I had a pretty bad hand injury when I was in high school, I never regained feeling in one of my fingers.

Have they done a nerve conduction study?
Do you have motor impairments or just sensory?
To be honest it will be a slow process and whatever you have at 1 year post GSW, will be what you have to live with

I have not had a conduction study yet. I have an appointment with a nuero doctor next week, I'll ask him about one. I have full motor function, it is only sensory thankfully.

Didn't you get shot in the neck? I think the after effects are going to be there with you for a while. That was some serious shite.

Yeah, I guess I'm just not that patient of a person. My wound healed really fast and everything else is 100% from a function standpoint. I guess I was hoping it wouldn't linger but I realize now that it's probably gonna take a while.

Unfortunately, yes. Two bouts with cancer and the chemo treatments combined have left me with very bad neoropathy in both feet. My feet are in constant pain from the ankle down and my toes feel like they are rigid metal extensions. I can barely bend them.
That is the "minor" nerve damage. The 2nd bout I had a tumor the size of a 20 oz bottle wrapped around my lower spine. So dense they could not even see any nerve roots connecting to my spine on the scan. The groin and quad muscles in my right leg.....basically everything to the knee.....will not generate any muscle growth due to nerve damage. My leg from my knee up to my thigh looks like a 90 year old man leg. I can only slow jog before my leg buckles. My walking gait is unaffected though....thank God. It has been 28 months since they relieved my spine of that mass and I have no idea if those nerves will ever re-generate to activate muscle growth again. I am hopeful.
In the meantime, I have accepted the daily pain as a new normal. Mornings are the worse due to stiffness of not moving over many hours. Most of the pain is in my lower back around where the tumor was located and relating to the mass of scar tissue that grew in the void.
