Too many famous Basketball Alumni to name, the atmospheres in Cameron/the Dean Dome are incredible, and their historical records speak for themselves. But it is beyond amazing how competitive the series is. I saw the following stat on College Gameday.

Last 88 meetings between the schools:
Wins: Duke - 44; UNC - 44
PPG: Duke - 77.47; UNC - 77.38

For two great programs to be that evenly matched for decades, I don't think there's any other rivalry that can match that high level longevity.

The media a.k.a. ESPN would like to to think it's Yankees-Red Sox

It's clearly Kentucky/Louisville.

Duke/UNC is right up there with Alabama/Auburn and Michigan/OSU football and light years ahead of any pro rivalry, IMO.

I personally love Navy/Army but not everyone would agree on that being one of the biggest rivalries.

In terms of fierce and hatred, no. In terms of how close it is, it's tough to find a rivalry as competitive as this. Didn't realize how close the PPG was.

There is nothing like Army-Navy for the pageantry and pureness.

The thing with pro rivalries is they're usually only regionally relevant unless both teams are good, like when Green Bay and Chicago played in the NFCCG in 2010. If the Bears suck, most of the nation doesn't care about that rivalry. Also, players change uniforms so often that it takes away from pro rivalries a little bit.

Most of the nation doesn't know how much Atlanta and New Orleans hate each other. Same with Cleveland and Pittsburgh.

The same exact thing could be said about college rivalries. Pro rivalries are definetly a thing. I hate the Giants and the celtics more than any one college athletic program

My argument against Duke/UNC is that they play 2-3 times a year every year. You have more than 1 opportunity to win that game than you do in football

I guess it's possible they could play 4 times in 1 year

This plus very few seasons have been ruined by losing to the other.

But it is a fun rivalry for sure.
