Yes because that has worked out well for all of our policies before. The war on drugs has been a raging success for example.

Yes I can. Take the Curt Schilling story this week and the two guys that threatened to rape his daughter. Looking at the fat dumbass and the other guy involved, do you think they were going to get anywhere close to sniff her much less rape her?
They deserve what they got but let's be real about how hollow their threats were.
Until those fools were looked for and found out there was no way of truly knowing that.
Never mind that the shite they were saying pales in comparison to the things going on with what these other women are talking about.

Show me a link to where someone said they were going to rape someone on the internet and then actually followed through with it IRL?
That would be the dumbest criminal on the net.

It was still a threat. You can't pick and choose which ones are worse than others if you want to stick to your guns of taking all threats on the internet as serious.

that "kid" was like 18 or 19 and thought it would be funny to talk about shooting up a kindergarten right after Newtown.
Sorry for not feeling sorry for the moron.

No shite you cant. There was no way to know how dangerous they were.
That's WHY these people needed to be found, called out, and punished when they do this stuff.

apples and oranges man
there is a huge difference between saying it shouldn't be legal to THREATEN TO KILL AND RAPE vs arresting people and throwing them in jail for using drugs.

gotta stamp out that thoughtcrime. who cares if it stifles legitimate speech, amirite?
harsh policing and heavy handed government programs never had unintended consequences, not once.

10 years? No. Not in that instance. But he didn't get 10 years, he faced up to 10, and is still awaiting trial.

No, I said the level of what they did was not the same as what some of these women are dealing with.
She didnt get months of harassment like these other people.

You think actually threatening a person with rape and or murder is just a thought crime?
So its cool with you if a person keeps telling your mother they are going to kill and rape her? That person is doing nothing wrong and is simply practicing legitimate speech?

there are two possible outcomes to this situation:
A) I get a mildly inconveniencing exchange with some stranger I will never meet.
B) We regulate the frick out of the internet and it becomes a caricature of itself because I'm an oversensitive pussy.
pick one.

So the "make an example of some of them and the masses will stop" approach. That has been tried and failed on numerous occasions. Drugs being one of them.

again, you cant equate the so called war on drugs with continuing to allow people to have the "right" to constantly harass people with death threats, rape etc w/o repercussions.

or we can go with option C and punish people who think its ok to constantly threaten people with death, rape, assault etc on the internet.
this doesnt have to be an all or nothing thing.

Are there any documented cases where something like this was going on and the Internet tough guy actually went through with the actual rape or murder?
I can't think of any.
I can't think of any.

I'm just saying it wouldn't work. Not that people should have the right to harass people. But if they make laws to stop this, then it's going to take away certain freedoms that don't hurt people. And I can't support that.

It is illegal and punishable but no way you can follow up on every stupid arse that tweets that out to someone.
It's also the classic bully scenario of if you ignore these guys then 99% of them go away. The issue is that the Zoe chick and Annita whatever her name didn't ignore it and they are patient zero for this stupid shite and others on both sides have jumped on board.
In fact, I would say that Anita chick intentionally keeps it stirred up so she has some sort of importance and has capitalized on it a lot. I bet she is making 6 figures off of interviews and speaking at all these conferences. Without keeping the controversy going she is a nobody again.
