I think it's just one universal code for all emergency personnel. I doubt they have a long arse list of gate codes on file
There are also other services like parcel, trash, etc that need access at times.

They all have codes. They may change them periodically, but they let certain groups know. When I was a delivery driver, we'd always find out what they were and post it up so that everyone would know.

But that's during the day and a lot of places just leave them open from sun up to sun down

"Emergency Vehicles, Yelp for entry" I always wondered if they play their sirens it will open upon that sound?
Eta: They have told me that is how they open some gates

So would (theoretically) downloading a police siren app and blaring it on my car speakers open the gate?

Some have yelper detection that will make them open when they use the yelp function on there sirens

Most of the time, but some parcels run late in the evenings

Many gated communities also have it set up so the responder can just "yelp" the sirens to override the gate

How does that work?
It's 1234 in most places. Try it.

Usually a locked box for emergency use only. It should be red near a pad.
Some communities require a main entrance and a "crash" gate that's emergency entry/exit only and stays locked off a secondary street.
Newer ones have electronic recognition.

I don't think pizza delivery guys have access to gated communities like emergency personnel does
A customer usually gives the pizza boy the code. He shares it with the rest of the store. It's fairly common. But you're right, the complex manager doesn't call up the pizza joints every time it changes.

Ten minutes before I saw this, I talked to retired city cop who mentioned that a house burned in his gated hood. I asked him how the fire dept got access to such hoods.
He and a retired state trooper both said that, when they worked, each hood provided the code to the fire dept, and the station had a book with all the codes. Firemen working in an area learned all the codes.
As posted above, some have alternative methods of entry as well.

I would certainly hope not. In my place (and many other places I've lived) your code is tied to your unit, so when a visitor punches in your code it calls your cell phone and you hit 9 (or whatever) and it opens the gate.
If I got a phone call for every delivery driver that came to the complex I'd flip my shite.

One gate I've seen had a small sign attached that said to open this gate in emergencies yelp like a dog for 6 seconds. no lie. I've never tried it but was always curious.
How could you see that and not try?

I think it depends on the technology at the gate

Car speakers don't typically sound the same as PA speakers, but theoretically it would work
