I am buying a vehicle from a dealership in Atlanta and don't really want to drive there. I am thinking about having my car shipped there and then shipping my new one back. Anyone here have any experience having cars shipped? Are there any secrets to pricing and things like that? Thanks.

I flew 1400 miles to pick up, and drive back one of my vehicles. The other I just drove to Alabama to get. Why wouldn't you want to put hands on the vehicle before signing the line?

Because I am lazy and hate driving.

I bought a car from a dealership in Ohio and shipped it to DC. They dropped it off at my front door. It cost me around $375.

The dealer usually has companies that they use. Although you may find cheaper prices, IMHO its better to let them figure out all the logistics.

Why not go to a local dealer and have them swap for it, then buy it from the local dealer?

You can fly one way to ATL for pretty cheap then drive it back. I've had multiple cars shipped from all over. Get the insurance and have it shipped to your door, not a drop yard. The faster you want it here the more expensive it is.

You probably just need to pick better vehicles. Both of mine are crazy fun to drive.

Through the dealer in El Paso had my new car shipped to Phoenix for $500. Delivered to my driveway.

That's a phenomenal deal, especially when factoring in travel costs to the dealership and gas on the way back.

Yea I looked into the cost of a one way and then the gas back. It was about 400 miles. IMHO there is no reason not to put your vehicle on a car hauler. Why would you want to add that unnecessary mileage to your new ride?

Mercedes shipped overseas from the factory in Germany.

Went there and picked up the car, drove around the country for a week then returned it and they took care of everything.

I honestly cannot remember the name of the company since the dealership set it up for me. Any reputable dealership will have a company or companies that they use to transport and deliver vehicles. The dealerships can usually get it done quicker.

I would let whose ever in control of the car at ship time arrange for all the shipping. Personal experience tells me that things can get screwed up when end users try to interject themselves into the process to save a few bucks. If it's something like an automobile it's not worth it.
