That's one guess.
Maybe though it's that parents got way more paranoid and therefore their kids are less likely to be victimized.
We certainly haven't evolved as a species since 1993. The proportion of people that would do harm if given the chance is exactly the same as it was 20 or 30 years ago. They just have fewer chances now because people are more cautious.
Or at least that seems likely.
If someone asks why there are fewer of such crimes nowadays, the answer can't be that such crimes have gone down. The answer has to be about what changed since then.

sure we have
look at concepts that advance society like gay marriage, attacking the war on drugs, sexual standards evolving, etc
COMPLETELY different than back in 1993

If I didn't know better I would almost think you were being facetious.

What he's referring to is psychological evolvement, not physical. It's not hard to understand where he is coming from. I for one, completely agree with him, and think he is right.

I have 2 daughters and our rule is no sleepovers if there are older brothers in the house, or with single dads.
So basically just a home with females? What if there's a gay older sister? Some of you people are too much. Wait till your daughters get to college and they have these older brothers putting it in every hole.

just because it happened in the past doesn't mean it is better
there are multiple cognitive biases at work. revering certain points in time when we developed the basis for our belief system taints objective analysis. you see this ALL the time in these discussions. people who grew up in the 80s and 90s (like myself) who truly believe it is more dangerous today.
the same issues present themselves with how you view societal standards of 1993, and why you think the moral developments i posted about are somehow incorrect or wrong

I see where he's coming from too. I just think it's ludicrous. Convenient and self-satisfying, but ludicrous nonetheless.

how?
my bias is to revere the 90s, b/c that's when i was a kid. objective evidence has crushed that world view

I'm not a parent, I was the one fricking these sheltered bitches in college. I thank you for fricking them up so bad that they went berzerk in college.

To be completely honest, I'm more afraid that my future children will be killed by one of their peers in a school shooting, than I am of them being molested by their baseball coach or Tammy's big brother.

I didn't say those developments are wrong. I am saying they are not the reason that children are less likely to be victimized in 2015 than they were in 1993.

I agree with this. Most parents now seem to be a lot more protective than when I was a kid.
I also think that technology has played a role in this as well. It was mentioned earlier that one poster's friend gave his daughters cell phones and he uses it to track them.
Another poster mentioned that it's doing more harm than good. That comment makes no sense to me. While I disagree that kids that age should have cell phones, I can't see how it's doing more harm than good. When they are older, especially when they start driving, it could be very beneficial in giving him piece of mind when his kids aren't home. As long as the kids know that he is tracking them, I don't have a problem with it.

I'd be more afraid they'll be killed in a car accident or develop cancer or something. Much more likely than being molested at a sleepover.

i never said they were
i posted those as proof of societal evolution since 1993

None taken. Just pointing out how these sheltered kids end up going wild at school. Don't get mad at me if your daughters became sluts.
