I know 2 instances where a woman and a man, both who were killed pulling out in front of an 18 wheeler, which resulted in their death. They made mistakes that cost them their lives and the drivers werent held liable nor should be

Not sure, but he stopped talking on the phone as soon as she tried to merge over. So maybe he saw her trying to merge and thats when she got his attention?

Also, is there a legal amount of space that a big rig has to have between them and the vehicle in front of them?

Ok, post the link so we can read the article and see if they were fully in front of the truck or not.

AH trucker sped up when she was trying to merge... She had her blinker on, why didn't he just let her in... He saw she was trying to pass with the slower truck in the R lane...

What video are you watching? She came into his lane and he went as far left as he could to avoid her without him running into the cable divider. A semi cannot speed up or slow down nearly as quickly as you claim. The girl was clearly the aggressor and had plenty of options to avoid the accident, but she didn't. All she had to do was stay in her own lane and/or slow down. She did neither.

Does not look like he sped up at all. Looks like she badly misjudged the space she had and rather than giving up on the lane change tried to do it anyway. He literally swerves onto the median (18 second mark) to avoid her. All she had to do was slow down and remain in the right lane and nothing would have happened at all.

So you're saying no matter what the circumstances, if an accident is rear impact you're automatically at fault, that is simply not true. Its highly likely yes, but not always automatic

Her intention all along was to be an a-hole and pass him before merging, instead of getting in line behind him like a normal driver.

Trucker did not speed up. The gap between the trucker and the blue truck disappeared as a result of the the cars merging.

Both Altima and VW started braking before they began to merge and then again after they were in the left lane. Unsafe lane change on both. You don't get into the left lane and force a slow-down as a result of your lane change. That's obstructing traffic.

How was truck holding up traffic? It was in a pack of vehicles passing slower traffic. Nothing illegal. It was truckers lane and he occupied it.

Cars passed on the right, that's illegal. Both cars did not want to wait their turn to pass truck in right lane. VW misjudged the merge and paid for it.

Truck did try to avoid by going onto shoulder and in doing so, could have made a bad situation worse if he lost control and went into the opposing traffic or into the right lane truck. Bottom line is the cars forced a situation due to impatience.

So much stupid on this board.

Would you prefer if I had said in 99% of cases instead? Does that make that much of a difference?
But if someone cuts you off and gets in front of you, you don't brake because you don't feel "obligated" like you said and hit them from behind, it will be your insurance paying for their damages (to the car and the person).

I've driven all over the nation, although not much in the Midwest.

I used to think Alabama was the worst, but honestly, we are far more terrible.
You really notice this when driving an over-sized vehicle.

I've actually had to hit the brakes b/c of people doing to me just what that girl did!!!

Same here. Have driven from Georgia to Colorado and Chicago many times and have never experienced worse drivers than Louisiana and especially I12. I thought Florida was the worst till I moved here.

I thought it was funny when my s/o told me about her driving test. Lasted 3 minutes and didn't even have to parallel park.

Pretty much every time you drive in a major city like Atlanta and Dallas, you see this shite ever 5 seconds.

Years ago my Baton Rouge driving tests was literally going around the block,
4 right hand turns and I was given a license. I will forever argue that 16 years old is way too young to be able to drive.

Gonna have to side with the trucker. If anyone on here had any idea what it takes to drive one then you wouldn't even be debating this.

There is a reason they drive like assholes. Everyone is always cutting them off

This thread has taught me that reasonable people (except for a few dumbasses) can view a video and have different takes on what they saw.

I agree. Truck-driver was a complete dildo. He seemed determined to not let her in, and even maintained his speed while moving on to the left shoulder to hold his ground. I hope his dash cam video bites him on the arse.
