The truck that hit him was over its on duty/driving hours and being driven illegally. I never followed up with the story but isn't the driver facing some very serious charges? That was just an all around terrible situation.
I remember hearing about a driver being told to drive over his legal hours by a manager, wrecking and killing someone, and both the driver and driver manager going to jail for manslaughter charges.

He was halfway onto the shoulder at one point trying to avoid her, well beyond the point where she should still have been trying to come over. And remember, SHE came over into HIS lane and hit him, not the other way around.
The other part of this is that even if he's hauling nothing, it takes a helluva lot more effort to slow his ride down than it does for her to slow hers down.
Her encroachment without enough of a buffer space is what caused the accident, his speed was irrelevant.

We are in agreement but it's easy to say what shou,d have been done when watching a video of an incident like that. The drivers only had a few seconds to react

I absolutely agree. He could have paid better attention and done more, but the bottom line is that the wreck was caused much more by her actions than his inactions.

There is also no law saying that you can't squeeze in over into the fast lane when there is room, which there was at the time when she was trying to merge.

Uh....no, he didn't. He speed up when he saw she was trying to get over, and not once attempted to brake, which is why she wrecked.
I am not trying to say the truck driver is the only one at fault, they both are. But just to point out, nothing grinds my gears more than when trucks get in the left lane to "pass" someone else, but go slow as hell. I can tell this is the case, because she is the second person to get in front of the truck.

Slow as hell? If he was going that slow the woman would make it no problem. He is clearly going faster than slow truck. If it was a mph difference the gap doesnt close that fast.

AH trucker sped up when she was trying to merge... She had her blinker on, why didn't he just let her in... He saw she was trying to pass with the slower truck in the R lane.

He WAS going slow as hell, which is why he was already passed once, and soon to be another.
No one was breaking when she was trying to get into the lane. Once she tried, he decided to speed up so she couldn't. She was in a rush, he was an a-hole. Both are at fault. I am not sure why it has to be one or the others fault and not both.

A CDL allows you to drive bigger vehicles, but doesn't make anyone a professional. Jeez.

Was a case of monkey-see, monkey-do. Altima made it and VW thinks they can make it too. Both cars slow down as they are merging, or did you not notice that? Unsafe lane change there by both of them, especially the VW. You see only what you want to see

It was a stupid woman passing on the right. A move that has pissed me off many a time....I don't drive an 18 wheeler and speed up to cut people off either.
Both are idiots and deserve some of the blame. I'm more fearful of his type of driving rather than hers.
