How underrated is Oscar Robertson?

Russell Westbrook had a historic February.
Then I see the stat that The Big O did the same thing 12 different months.
Why is this guy overlooked when people consider the greatest players?

People who know basketball know he is one of the all time greats. People like you don't realize basketball was played before Kobe and Lebron

I think most people have him as top 15 of all time. He only won 1 NBA Finals though as far as I'm aware, and that hurts his cause of getting any higher than top 10 tremendously.

Oscar was before my time but when I was growing up a lot of adults considered Oscar Robertson to be one of the 3 or 4 best players of all time.

What we think means nothing. Ask those who played against him. Considered by almost all to be best of his time.

Prob a reference to okie saying that Duncan is the second best player ever

His numbers are definitely great, averaging the triple doubles, but you really do have to adjust for pace. The game was played at an insanely fast pace then,s omething like 25% or even more possessions for each team.
Haberstroh had a tweet, I forgot exactly the breakdown, but if you adjust the stats per 100 possessions(which is probably the best metric to normalize stats/efficiency), Westbrook's historic February was only matched by Lebron, or something like that. It was something like 40/10/10 for 1 month per 100 possessions, not even Big O had done it, so you can see the difference pace makes if you check out that tweet.

He doesn't get discussed more because the younger generation has never seen him play.

Same reason Wilt Chamberlain is. They had an advantage over their teammates at the time.
Still bad arse though

He's always mentioned and should be. He's also one of the biggest assholes you will ever meet. When I was in college I went to the same gym as him in Cincy. The weight room was connected to the bball courts and you had to walk through the courts to get to them. One day he was shooting around and his basketball rolled in front of me when I was walking past. Naturally I just picked it up and threw it back to him. He proceeded to get in my face and scream at me, dropping the f bomb several times. Now I wasn't much of a bball player but could hold my own. So instead of backing down my buddy and I picked up a couple of others and played him and his boys full court, and won. In the process Big O continued his tirade, mostly vs his teammates. I thought that maybe he was just having a bad day, but it turned out it was just the way he was. He was the same a-hole every other time I saw him.

if anything i think he is overrated. dominating player against a bunch of scrubs in his era. He avg that triple double a whole season because seasons was much shorter then and playing talent that wasnt close to todays. The game was slow, the players not near athletic. You could put jeremy lin in a high school game and that would be about the same as oscar playing in the nba in that era. Im not saying oscar wasnt good, but to say he was underrated is funny.

That was 22 years ago, so I think he was 54. Yes, he could still play but nobody wanted to guard him because he was such a dick. We beat them pretty easily a couple of times and let's just say he was not happy.
