I'm a junior at LSU, looking to go to either medical or pharmacy school after getting my bachelor's. Just wondering if there was anyone on here who knows about hospitals, physicians, or pharmacies in BR who hire student workers, or have jobs that would be good to put down on med/pharm school applications

Two of my friends went to pharmacy school and neither had work experience, they also went after only two years of school so I don't know if that had anything to do with it.
I think one worked as a pharmacy tech while in school.

Working retail pharmacy will suck, but will look good on your app if you get PTCB certified. Also, if you know your way around a pharmacy it will make your rotations a bit easier

Epic, you don't have to have a degree to apply to pharmacy school. Just have all the pre-reqs done. It's still that way

I wasn't sure if it was still that way or not. I looked into it while in undergrad and I thought there was talk about making a BS a requirement, I guess it hasn't changed.

Finding a job like that will be tough. Volunteer at BRG or OLOL. That will get you in hospitals and near patients and doctors. Only real jobs are scribes and patient transport, and those are usually filled

If you decide med, you'll definitely need some exposure, I volunteered at BR General and worked as an ER tech before I started med school.
No idea about pharmacy school though

man, we are desperate for techs right now at CVS.... but they are trying to get licensed techs.... and those don't grow on trees....
plus, the Board limits the number of tech in training employees a pharmacy can have at one time....

I don't know of any jobs, but I know people that have just gone and shadowed doctors for the experience. Not to much just a couple of times during the semester. Make sure you shadow a doctor in the same field as you would like to be as well.

Never set foot to work in a pharmacy and it didn't matter. They want well-rounded candidates. Just understand pharmacy and be able to discuss the profession during your interview and you'll be fine. Have some volunteer work and involvement elsewhere.
Then again, I had a very strong pcat so I dunno.
