I guess you did not pay a bit of attention to the Duke Lacrosse case then, did you?

Funny how posters on here are quick to bash the current system in which accused sexual predators are guilty until proven guilty, and then jump to bash their team's rival for not dismissing a guy who doesn't even have charges brought against him.

I think Duke should immediately kick off any athlete accused of any sexual mischief whether there is any proof of such allegation or not. Just imagine if it was lacrosse players accused. We all know how rowdy those guys are.

Played on the same high school team as Rasheed, he was always a douche but sexual assault would shock me

So the administration needs to report the accusation but to whom? I assume the police or higher ups but what then.. He was eventually kicked off. Ive got to imagine its tough to immediately suspend or dismiss a player when all you have are accusations made at a retreat.

The allegations were also brought to the attention of Sue Wasiolek, assistant vice president of student affairs and dean of students, according to the anonymous affiliate. "Nothing happened after months and months of talking about [the sexual assault allegations

The admin was notified and "talked about it" which I'm sure includes investigating. What are they supposed to do if the students won't even file a complaint, much less charges with police

If the women didn't report the allegations what can the Duke coaches/administration do?

Why is this difficult to understand:
quote:

Title IX laws require almost all university employees to report any sexual assault allegations they have knowledge of to a supervisor, campus police, or the Student Conduct office, even if no official complaint has been lodged.

What assistant takes the fall on this one

None because someone in the Athletic Department has already left he reported it to AD, Coach K, team Psychologist. Duke did everything right in this case. The UNC fan just has not figured it out yet.

Both students voiced allegations publicly, but neither filed a complaint through the Office of Student Conduct or took legal action through the Durham Police Department

Pretty much makes this a non story.

This pisses me off. I have much more limited sympathy for potential victims if they do NOT report it to the police or even the freaking campus. And don't give me they were afraid of community backlash- that still voiced their allegations 'publicly.'

Just curious what they are supposed to do when neither alleged victim reports the alleged incidents to anyone.

So all a girl has to do is say they were sexually assaulted and the public thinks they should be kicked off the team and punished? frick that.

It is obvious that the allegations were reported, but did anyone in the athletic department even know the ID of the two alleged victims? It wasn't like the women made the allegations to members of the athletic department. What are they suppose to do, if the victims don't want to file a complaint?

They are obligated to report to the College's Title IX officer, who then is obligated to investigate. In this scenario, the Title IX officer would probably set up private meetings with all allegedly involved, and then after getting no where with that, pursue no additional action in their report.

One of those is the title of the article, the other is hardly a #hottake. I posted this more to read other people's opinions than give my own.
