For the next month at the end of every practice I had to make 2 free throws or the entire team had to run suicides. Then, I would get another chance and if I didn't make them both we would have to run. This would go on for as long as it took me to make 2 in a row. Most days I hit them both, some it took a few tries. It was miserable since I was the only freshman on the team, there was one other sophomore but everyone else was a junior or senior and I was making them run. We went on to finish 2nd in the state in 5A, the highest division, so it was all was ok in the end but god that sucked.
we had to do this in HS but only if we finished below like 70% or something as a team from the line in the previous game. Everyone had to make 2 free throws or you ran. It was miserable.

intermural basketball championship game we're up by one with about 3-4 seconds left.. teammates on bench start the countdown on the inbounds pass which gets tipped by a teammate,, there a scramble for the ball,, I end up with it, after the bench yells ZERO I throw the ball up in the air
where it lands in the opponents goal
ref ruled I let go of the ball with time left

Ya it originally was a different person every practice until I fricked up and it became only me. I thought those guys were gonna kill me after some of those practices.

In the 9th grade, our JV baseball team was undefeated and I started left field, but also pitched some. We thought we were hot shite. We were playing against a bad team, and coach decided to give me the start.
I had an awful first inning and they got up on us. I was pulled during the first. Just a total meltdown right out of the gates.
We ended up not being able to overcome the lead that I gave up.
It was our only loss of the season. My friends gave me a bunch of shite about it.

I never had any big personal moments, just a few drops in HS when I played football.
Team wise i'd say the Saints 49ers '11 playoff game. A few days after the heartbreak of the LSU/Bama title game my only reaction was to just walk out of my friend's dorm(was an FSU student at the time) and depressingly eat an entire pizza in the school cafeteria.

Yep. 2008 church league horseshoe grand slam tourney. Our team was the Redemption Leaners and I was an ace pitcher. The best we had. I had been training to face a semi pro gunslinger that pitched for the Westside Assembly of Christ team. He was unreal. He had an awkward sidearm toss that yielded around 85% ringer. A devout sharp shooter.
It was a sudden death event and we rolled on everyone up until the second snack break. I was playing lights out. I almost couldnt miss. Our youth leader decided to treat us all to Applebee's before we headed into battle against Westside. My nerves were racked and I made the ill fated decision to have several
vodka tonics with my club sandwich. I got smashed
When we made it back out to the field I could hardly stand. I just didn't know it. Until the match started. I never landed a shoe within six feet of the pin the entire set. By the time of forfeit we were down 8-2 as a team. No way to recover. That was the longest hour and 45 minute van ride of my life. To this day I havent touched another shoe

I dropped what probably would have been the game winning pass in OT against our rivals my senior year. I say probably because we got the ball first, but we were shutting them down the entire game. I actually initially caught it but unexpectedly got hit and then dropped it. We never scored in OT and some fricker booted a 45 yard FG (which was extremely rare to see for the schools we played) to win it for the rival. I probably got 3 hours of sleep that night I was so upset. And to relive it the next day in film was the worst. The coach probably made me watch it 10 times.
Are you by chance a Watterson grad?

Never really had a dismal moment on the field--I was never the hero or the goat in an organized sport.
Guess I got lucky

That would be correct. I've told that story plenty of times and no one has ever gotten it right.

Backup defensive end in 9th grade. It was my first game back after being hurt most of the season. Coach puts me in the game, and on the third play I get a late hit and 15 yard penalty. It wasn't a cheap shot or anything, but the guy was already on the ground and I fell on top of him at least 5 seconds after the whistle blew. I still don't know why I did it, it just happend. It was two more game before he put me in again

My last high school football game ever.
Threw a pick six early, threw another pick right before halftime and then later in the game on our best drive of the night, I got stripped on a rollout and lost the ball inside the 10.
I ended up getting hooked in the early 4th quarter. In my last game ever. I sat on the end of the bench and cried while watching the clock hit zero. Worst moment of my young life at that point.
By far the worst in this thread. Very sad

My senior year we were playing a team from our own district in the Regional finals. We win, we go to the state tournament. Proceeded to go 0-4 with 3Ks and in my last at bat, grounded into a double play with the bases loaded down by 3 to end the game and our season.

In another life, first carry as a 4'10" RB in HS - guess I must have been watching to much B&W TV - put the head down as I hit the line. Must have run five yards before I am thinking, not hits, no touches? Raise the head & get two steps before there all-state LB buried my little arse. Can still feel it today :-)

District championship my junior year of high school against our rivals. I was 4-6 at the plate but one of those two outs was an at bat I'll never forget. Bottom of the 14th, bases loaded, 2 outs, tied game. I have a 3-2 count and watch strike 3. They won in the 15th and stormed our field. Josh Tomlin, who throws for the Clevland Indians gave up a bomb. I think he was hurting more than me.

My senior year, football season. I was a staring safety. We were playing a high school from Incline Village Nevada that had won something like 30 or 35 straight games. Late in the fourth quarter we were up 22 to 21 and they had the ball around mid-field.
Their QB rolled out to his right (away from my side of the field) threw the ball and I broke to intercept the pass. I stepped in front of the other safety and raised my hands to catch the ball when I heard my team mate (the other safety screaming "I GOT IT I GOT IT")
I had intercepted five or six balls throughout the season up to that point and this other kid didn't have any. So, like a dummy I dropped my hands so he could get the interception. The ball hit him in the hands, bounced up over his head and the receiver from Incline Village caught the ball and took it in for a touchdown. We lost the game 28 to 22. I felt terrible. My dad worked on the chain gang and after the game, people were coming up to my dad and told him that he needed to start buying me tickets to attend the games.

My senior season, final game to get to state playoffs, playing center field. Game is tied. Runner on 1st. Next batter, ball is hit over my head to the fence. Ran back and picked it up. Runner is rounding 3rd headed home. Threw a one-hop bead , straight on solid throw to get the runner at the plate.
Our pitcher cut it off at the mound.
We lost the game 2-1.

2004 5A State basketball championship game.
Watched first hand as a D.J. Augustin led Brother Martin team beat St Aug on a banked 3ptr by Ryan Brock (Left hander on the right wing) to win the state title. St Aug was down majority of the game and rallied to take the lead in the 4th. Our Center, missed the game winning layup with time expiring

Senior year came in relief, bases loaded, in the Sun Belt tourney championship game. Hung a 1-2 curve that got hit for a 2 run double, balked in a run while intentionally walking Johnny Giovatella, then gave up first pitch single and I was out of the game. Couldnt get a single out. We lost and it was the last game I ever pitched in.
