MTV board's thoughts about The Middle

Patricia Heaton as a nicer Deborah Barone, Neil Flynn as his Scrubs character, but not as sinister. Three kids up to the usual hijinks. A less trashy Roseanne or a less surreal Malcolm in the Middle. It has its moments.

We watch it every now and then, occasional chuckles

Very good show. Brick is hilarious.

Meh, Axel may be one on the most annoying characters on TV.

That damned Brick kid gets on my nerves....he's like 16 and supposedly book smart, but they have him playing a 6th or 7th grader. And his nasally voice irritates the shite outta me.

I like Modern Family better. I put it above Goldbergs but below Raising Hope.

You put the Middle above Goldbergs?

I enjoy the show and am surprised Axel has not been mentioned for the Heisman. Maybe next season.
Brick needs female hormones to get his voice pitch higher.

Goldbergs better for nostalgia... but haven't had one single belly laugh yet.

Occasionally funny, generally kinda meh. It accomplishes what it sets out to do. I'd say it's definitely a tame, more family friendly, version of "Malcolm in the Middle"

Do you have kids? Beverly Goldberg is one of the best characters on any show period, and way she relates to her kids is pretty much perfect comedy IMO.
We watch the Middle too, but outside of Sue, the Goldberg characters are infinitely more likable and unique. I agree with the post above, if there is anyone more annoying on TV than Axel Heck, I haven't seen it.

Yeah, Atticus Shaffer who plays Brick is playing a younger character,
SO what.
Eden Sher(Sue Heck) is 23-24 years old, and Charlie McDermott (Axl Heck) is actually a little younger than her though his character is older.
You thought they were teenagers?
And the "not the sharpest tool in the shed" Darrin character, boyfriend of Sue, is played by a guy that holds a B.A from Loyola in New Orleans, John Gammon.
I'm glad Atticus Shaffer is working,(and doing a good job at that) and not sitting around collecting disability like he could.
He has brittle bone disease (type IV osteogenesis imperfecta). He walks with a limp because he's broken bones in his legs so many times, and he doesn't GO to school, he's home-schooled.

The high pitched nasally voice?
A big reason he sounds like he does IS because of the disease he has.
By the way, there's a few regions around the country that have a nasal-type accent, and part of "The Middle" is one of them.

I enjoy it. Like a couple of other posters have mentioned it reminds me of a toned down version of Malcolm in the Middle.

I still do his "new tick" every once in a while.
*look up* Whoop!
ETA: And yes, Axel is annoying but I find myself rooting for Sue all the time. Am I supposed to?

We like The Middle a lot in our household.
My teenager relates to the Axl character, in fact that's a family nick for him because he's into playing sports and when he's off from school he's usually playing his guitar and would sit around in his boxer's (a al Axl) all day if I let him.
For me I like all the characters, the optimism and never give up attitude of Sue, quirky Brick with his social issues, etc.,
and its refreshing to see a sitcom NOT based on Lib values for a change.
