Does anyone else here write?

I like to dabble from time to time. Currently I'm on a Dresden-esque binge (both reading and writing) while waiting for Butcher to put out his next book and I got to wondering who else here might write.

Not really but I should. I know I'd be good at it. And I have a couple of ideas kicking around. One in particular I've gone far enough to research. I Have an A and C down pat. I know what my B will be but its still murky.

Yep. Fantasy and sci-fi mostly, some literary. It's what I went to school for and is my first love.

Yes, a few short stories but currently working on something bigger.

I write a fair amount of poetry, been trying to start a novel for a while. Working on an, at least somewhat, original magic system right now. Would y'all advise having everything laid out as far as basic plot, then having a goal for writing each chapter? Or just write and see where I end up?
Some of my poetry.
I have a feeling for things unknown
That would make me wish to leave hearth and home
I wish to be there to see the sight
Of the darkened moors on a wind-filled night
The misty mountains cold beckon my name
To sit at their feet by an open flame
Twixt and twain the mountains and marsh
Soaking in all this soft world considers harsh
To see the magic dancing of a hidden valley stream
To hear the hunting hawks piercing scream
A silent urge to hunt the thicketed boar
Where did I get this love of lore
I do not know why these things I may never see
I always feel beckon to me
I may never know what compels me so
But these things I must gaze upon before they lay me low
Your love my sweet, it eludes me still
I liken to sifting grain meant for the mill
One must work hard to gain sustenance of life
It takes many labors, toils, and strife
A culling of the fields
A burning of the husk
And many days working until dusk
One must sift stone and thistle
All other forms of gristle
And always be careful while sifting the grain
For this longest of toils is not without pain
Every prick of my finger it is worth to me
To earn one loaf of this bread, so sweet you see
Your love is my bread, your heart my grain
My flaws are my gristle, thistle, and stone
For when I sift my flaws I hope to obtain
That I wish for one day to be mine alone
Forgive my sweet, me of this rambling prose
I simply write as my hearts river flows
This river turns the mill
Which softens the grain
To hopefully allow a beauty, the world, to gain
Your love, my sweet, the world deserves to see
I simply hope you bestow it upon me

I highly suggest Jerome Stern's Making Shapely Fiction for any aspiring writers, particularly for those interested in writing novels and/or short stories.
Even if you are not necessarily interested in writing, it will give great insight into the art of story telling. I cannot recommend it enough.

Used to. Graduated from a pretty solid creative writing program and had a few short stories published. Haven't wirrten anything meaningful in about 2 or 3 years, though. Got married, got busy working multiple jobs, and just haven't been able to establish a consistent routine conducive to writing and revising. Sometimes I miss it and I'll write down some ideas for later. But I'm mostly stuck where I am until some things in my personal life even out.

sarcasm mostly,,, though you lot of rabble rarely deserve it.

Used to. And I still dabble, but I've largely given up on it. I've usually got too many ideas and not enough focus to finish anything.

Took a screen writing class.
I have about 45 pages written for a movie.

I wrote a 100+ page novella while in college. It was terrible, but I enjoyed writing it.

I wrote around 40 horror short stories when I was 10/11. They were my attempt at a Goosebumps series. Then when I was around 12/13 I started on screenplays, one reaching 115 pages. My mom still has them saved up back at home.
My family and myself included always thought writing was my calling but I haven't written much of anything since I was around 14. I'd love to start again. But I don't know where I want to take it on at. Short stories, poetry, screenplay, or just full on novels.

I do, but I never share my stories.
Mainly from the fear of, what if people didn't like them or think I'm any good.
I don't know if I could take that kind of rejection.

I do. Started in 2008 with a few short stories. Have written a few novellas and co-authored a few books with some really great authors and friends. All of it has been traditionally published (though mostly smaller houses) and I dabbled a tad in self publishing before realizing it wasn't for me.
I was nominated for an award (Bram Stoker Award) a few years ago for an anthology I assembled.
I also had an agent for a while, but it wasn't doing me much good so we parted ways about a year ago.
Writing is great. It's fun, therapeutic, and just a great feeling to know what you've created is enjoyed by others.

Yep. Three books (one ethnography, a novel, and a textbook) and about thirty articles published
