It's never okay to call San Francisco "San Fran"; "Frisco" is okay.

I think SF is acceptable too (any locals want to weigh in on this?). And don't call it SFO. It is a city, not an airport.

The earliest known written usage of “Frisco” is in a letter written in 1849 by a New Englander who arrived in San Francisco by ship. He, like the New Englanders of today who tend to come here for a few years and then flee home to get married and have babies, was not impressed.
"Made good passage to ’Frisco. Captain David Carter of Beverly [Mass.] died on the passage out. Think San Francisco is the most contemptible dirty place one could wish to see. Not fit for man or beast.”

it's "The City" to the folks in the hinterlands of Napa.

Meh, IDC.
Good bars in SF, though.
Was surprised at the # of hot women.

From now on, thanks to this thread, I will only refer to it as San Fran and/or SFO

They do not like Frisco. They do not like San Fran. They do not like southerners. Unless you are a good looking man.

They were 8-9 very attractive women ranging in age from 25-50 at the Clock Bar.
Fish in a barrel...
My wife wouldn't have been impressed by my skills.
The 50 year old got picked up by 20-30 something male model type.

Thank you.
It is San Francisco.
Also, you never call it Frisco. No one calls it fricking Frisco. That's retarded.
Don't Call it Frisco
quote:
A 1918 article in the Examiner recounts the opprobrium heaped upon a divorce petitioner following his fourth utterance of the term "Frisco" during testimony.
"No one refers to San Francisco by that title except people from Los Angeles," snapped the judge. "I am the chairman of the City Council of Defense and I warn you that you stand in danger of being interned as an alien enemy. Don't do it again."
The petitioner admitted wrongdoing and avoided incarceration. Incidentally, he was from Los Angeles.
ETA: apparently San Fran is equally despised.

I found the people to be friendly and nice. Not southern-friendly, but certainly not Yankee-standoffish.
