referees manage every game and there are "judgements" made on everything. A judge makes sure the contestants are performing the correct technique and routines set forth in the rules the same way a football ref judges whether or not he should throw a flag for a questionable call, or a runner scoring. There are "judgements" in all sports.

experience either continuous, or short transient periods of an elevated (70-80% of max) heart rate SECONDARY to physical activity, and not due to chemicals (ie, caffeine) or certain biomolecules (ie, hormones).
Edit: When I was in high school I would walk 54 holes a day in the summer. I can assure you stuff doesn't have to been done at high speed over a short period of time to be physically exhausting.

Nobody (that I"ve seen anyway) is saying those things aren't incredibly difficult. Some of yall are getting yoru panties in such a bunch acting like people saying [X] isn't a sport mean that it's easy or for sissies or it sucks. That's not the case.
People lifting 600 pounds on bench press takes a shite ton of strength and training, and it's somethign I won't ever come even REMOTELY close to being able to do in my lifetime. Doesn't mean it's a sport though.

Who was the golfer that had the leg condition causing him to have to use a golf cart? Casey something?
I thought it was pretty funny how all of the other golfers thought it was too unfair for him to use a cart because he wouldn't be walking like them. . . with another man carrying their bag for them

You can disrupt their concentration. Yes.

According to YOUR definition beer pong is a sport.
I play some ferocious defense on bounces, not to mention the mental defense used on the beer pong court.

Sounds like you've got rules and sports as a mixed definition.
I was pretty clear in my first post what I think a sport is, and it had nothing to do with rules. It was about your opponent.

Agreed. If you can smoke a couple of packs a day and still be good at it, it's probably not a sport.

No. People are providing examples of long established sports that don't fit your definition. You're getting your panties in a was because people don't agree with your definition.

But you can't stop them. Oh yeah, sure you can fake cough and "disrupt" them, but you cannot physically stop the other person from swinging/excelling.
Baseball, football, basketball, tennis, soccer, hockey, etc are all sports where your opponent DIRECTLY stops you from winning.

The ones that have a defense are playing sports. The rest are just in competition. Nothing wrong with that and doesn't make them less athletic.

Yea because that was totally my argument. Try reading next time.

I don't care in the least bit, nor do I consider either one a sport either. You realize somethign can be difficult and challenging and not a sport right?
I just want to know what the word sport referred to back in the early 1800's and before then. You know the word existed right? Yet none of the things you consider sports were even invented yet.

Not really. NOboyd is stopping your shot. If you choose to bounce that's your own risk.
baseball- pitcher is throwing the ball past you
football- other team is tackling you
basketball- other team is blocking/stealing from you
tennis- opponent is hitting away from you
hockey- people steal from you
in beer pong, nobody is stopping you from making the ball in the cup. If you throw the ball straight into the cup, there's nothing that anyone can do about it.

gtfo with this

so basically anything played as a team = sport. anything played individually unless directly against another person in unison is not?

I bolded the key word. This is what MY definition of a sport is, which I very clearly said in my first post. I'm not saying I'm right and everyone else is wrong, I'm just defending my position by replying to posts.

long established sports
just because something has been around forever doens't automatically make it a sport. I bet tiddly winks, hopscotch, and ball on a string in a cup have been around for centuries but I wouldn't call those sports.

I'm defending/supporting my position to the multiple people that are responding to the posts. I never once said anythign about people disagreeing with me.
