Holding Spots for Parades

Last year, NOLA City Council passed ordinances preventing people from roping off areas on parade routes. This rule was pretty much ignored by the police.
My feelings have always been as follows:
1) If you and your buddies want to get out there early, put some stuff out there, and stay with it, I am fine with that.
2) If you go out there a day before, rope off or otherwise leave a bunch of stuff out there, and don't stay with it, only to show up 2 hours before he parade, I should be able to walk up before hand and throw it all in the street.
Of course, actually doing #2 will probably lead to violence.
What say the OT? Should it be ok to put your stuff out there and take up a massive amount of space with tarps, etc, on the route, and then show up a couple of hours before parade? Or should you have to stay and defend your stuff?

Poors thread, not worthy of the OT.

you should have to have at least 1 person with your shite the entire time you are saving it.

Good with that, but not good with only showing up right before the parade.

I guess we need to start reserving some space here during Mardi Gras for every time this is discussed.

Good with that,
Why? What gives you the right to leave unattended stuff on public property?
Not trying to pick a fight, just honestly curious where that mentality comes from.

This is just the 5th or 6th thread in the last few days on this subject. Just busting your balls.

What's the law against taking things people leave in public areas? Seems like it could be viewed as trash and free to anyone who wants it.

Not in the spirit of mardi gras yo!
Yeah, weve discussed this a bunch. I started a thread early in the week bitching about the folks spray painting big arse squares in the neutral ground on Orleans to save their spots. There were several spots like that already painted this past Sunday.
It's bull shite.
But, if someone rolls out the night before and drops a few ladders and chairs with a reasonable amount of space, it really doesn't bother me that much as long as they are out the next morning at daylight.
I've slept on Orleans before to save a spot. It's all for fun until the assholes come rolling up as the parade is coming down the street and let their 8 little tard kids jump all up in front of us and then sit their fatass in my chair.
Generally I don't care though. Pass people a beer and play nice. It's all good.

I wouldn't do it, but that thought is the reason I would never leave stuff overnight unattended. What could I really say if it was stolen?

This seems like a crime itself, and also something I would ignore either intentionally or without noticing it when finding a spot to stand.

Nothing. NOPD would fall over laughing if you tried to complain to them.
The best situation is having someone you know or making friends with someone in the area next to you who will be staying overnight. Give them beer and ask to watch your shite.
It can be a pain in the arse. If it gets you so annoyed you can't enjoy yourself it might be time to buy spots on the viewing stands downtown or watch the Metairie parades.

Not throw in the street, but move out of the way, for sure.
I hate that shite.

If they get out there before I do, that's one thing.
When I get out there at 7 am and can't find a single spot on the neutral ground, yet there are 18 tied together ladders and 5 tents together, and the people show up 3 hours later, that's the issue.

here's an easy solution. Don't go to parades. I've never udnerstood the menatality of Mardi Gras parade people. especially the ones who start world war 3 with everyone around them just to catch plastic beads that cost $2 a box at the store. so dumb.

The recent run in we had was the most extreme...fat bitch was trying to reserve a huge area for some party by laying out unfolded chairs but not a soul in sight even an hour or so before the parade. We originally kinda squeezed in (among the folded up chairs) trying to be nice, but the more time passed without anyone there the more we expanded a little bit. A group of older people came up and inquired about it and also set up shop. Ms Piggy was fricking pissed when they finally came down (looked like they lived right by there, even more the lazy). She tried to instigate some shite when some dude friends would come by but no one would bite, luckily.

I'm just glad it's still acceptable to shoot people for taking MY frickING PLASTIC CUP.

not everyone out there is trash but a huge enough number of trash are always out there that is makes no sense for a normal non trash person to go to a parade. let them have it.
