I'm going Tuesday if this crap doesn't get settled.

I'm from the last class. Id like to get a few years under my belt before I pissed off the people I'll be depending on to teach me the nuances of my job.

On the other hand I think the union is being ridiculous and I don't have the patience or desire to wait this out.

They only hold the Onboarding classes on MWF, so Tuesday is out.

Ha! Luckily I made it through onboarding. But I've only been on the unit a few months. Got a crap ton to learn. Don't need a handicap. But I didn't take this job to sit at the house and be told I can't do it.

In my experience it's too good to be striking over this staffing crap.

No, I meant that they hold Onboarding classes to come back to work on M/W/F. It's a mandatory class that lasts about 3 hours that you have to take when you "cross the line". You don't just walk back into the unit. Contact your Supervisor/HR for more details. You also have to type up a letter resigning from the Union, have it notarized and sent Certified to the Union Hall.

Ah. Well that's news to me. Didn't know the letter needed to be notarized. That's good to know. Didn't know about the classes either but was gonna contact hr tomorrow anyway.

Does the letter have to be addressed to anyone in particular or just USW 750?

Maybe go (call) and talk with your coworkers. Ask at the hall. Make sure your feelings are well known and not like a sneak thief. Trust me, coworkers today are more understanding.

Certified to the Union Hall.
I would send it to Pittsburgh and have them process it. Avoid the local on.

Either the USW 750 Hall on Good Hope, or as Brass mentioned, send it to Pittsburg. You may not make the "Scab" poster board as quickly that way.

Anyone been by the Hall lately? Are they still keeping the Scab list updated? I'd imagine it's a few poster boards at least now.

If you cross the line you are stupid. This will end and no one will work with you. How can you think short term and not see the 30 years you will need? The company offers 2/2/2, that's a pay cut. Food cost more, everything is going up. The company has to fix equipment, spend Capitol and do what's in long term interest of the plant and people. If we won't stand for BP improving the right to life in Texas city who will? It's not about Shell but other plants that kill people every year. How many need to die for a company to make max profit?

I think I'm going to let that one go, because that's a special kind of dumb that can never be fixed.

So get Mexicans in like the beef packers did and pay 15 a hour. Kill the middle class, not a problem. Look up IBP beef packers. They had a wild cat strike, against the union and company. Wages dropped to nothing, union in the company hand, sux

He smells of troll.

I hope y'all get settled, for everyone's benefit. A man does what he can for his family and union or not, I hope it works out.

I can't look from either side and ignore that the opposite side has room to give.

Hoping that a lot of these guys get back to work and that things get back to normal for them.

Take those issues up with BP or the other companies. I don't think Shell is going to bend. If I'm a Shell guy out striking for what the union is asking for, I'm probably pretty upset right now. In my experience, life with Shell is pretty good.

FYI - BP doesn't even own the Texas City plant anymore.

Eh, I'm done making my points in this thread, but, in my opinion, the workers should have lost any bargaining chip the day they walked out on their jobs. In a perfect world, they now have no jobs.
