Not the townhouse your dork, I was talking about the house you're building.
I know that what you meant.
The neighborhood we picked is the least cookie cutter in our area, which isn't saying much.
The 2 lots we get to choose from are around 50-55k sq ft. I don't know what that is in acres.

My family of 3 lives in 2400 sq ft and it feels like too much most of the time.
We don't use about 1000 sq ft of it.
No idea what I would do with >3000 sq ft...probably just fill it with more useless shite.

Not all square footage is created equal.
I grew up in a seventeen hundred square foot house with two siblings and we all had our own rooms, but they were small.

4k sq ft on .75 acres. Why?
We enjoy living in a neighborhood and having enough yard for an outdoor kitchen and some room to throw a ball (or have a pool if that's preferred) is enough for us. We have a big park and sports fields in walking distance to the house as part of our neighborhood.
How is wanting a small house and big piece of land looked at as "cool" while wanting a big house on a smaller piece of land looked at as "nonsensical?"

without reading all the responses, his requirements sound pretty reasonable.
I would want all my kids to have separate bedrooms and yeah i'd think with three kids i would want at least a 3000 sq ft house

Sounds like you need a better bank! My place is only 1250 sq feet but its just me and my building is literally in the single best location in Scottsdale and only has 85 lofts so I feel kind of special
Lol. Nah. Banks lend on a price per square foot basis, at least in Texas. Because the land was so valuable, we had to build a house big enough to get the price per square foot down to within a palatable rate for the bank to feel comfortable that they would get their money back in the event of default.

Why you mad?
We both are exercising our subjective preferences.

Plus, I never pass an opportunity to call someone a dork. Deserved or not.

Plan on more kids?
That's why we are going big. We plan on having 3 kids, therefore a bedroom for each. When they are all gone, I'm going back to a townhouse

I don't think I am. I think I just answered your question and asked one of my own. Are you mad?

The randomness of seeing "dork" on the OT as an insult made me lol.

my wife and I have a house of 2800 sq ft, with 2200 sq ft finished.
Its really big, especially since we have three enclosed porches that don't count against that 2800 sq ft.
We were living in 1200 sq ft and that was too small. Now this is way too big. Oh well. we have lots of zen space in the house.

I've never heard a sq ft per person but every kid should definitely have their own room....do people really make kids share?
Posted on 1/30/15 at 1:35 pm to HempHead
Probably because you don't have TV in your tepee.
Posted on 1/30/15 at 1:35 pm to GRTiger
No, it's the IV in my peepee

It won't at all unless you go by the stadium, even then it might add 20 minutes but that is it.
I have to go I-10 to 303 to 60, so Glendale-ish

I bought a house in Lakewood. It's older and considered small by Texas standards
I live in Lakewood too and most of the old houses are on the smaller side. But they are tearing down 3 or 4 houses a day in Lakewood and building McMansions so have them look at those.....if they can afford $1 million and up.

I don't really see the big deal with little kids
I shared a room with my brother all my life. We loved it when we were little.
Once the teenage years came around we hated it though
