ESPN: Teams you can't trust... yet (LSU Basketball)

Regarding LSU:

The list below features 10 teams that could make deep runs in March. Some of these squads might even reach the Final Four in Indianapolis.
There is no denying their respective talent, potential and capability.
But there’s also something about each of them that makes it difficult to assume that they’ll ever reach their ceilings this season. On paper is one thing. On the court? Well, that’s a bit more complicated with the following programs. They’re the kind of squads that induce moments of beauty and heartbreak. Sometimes in the same game.
Can’t trust them ... yet.
Regarding LSU:
quote:
There were certainly concerns about Johnny Jones’ program early. The Tigers lost to Old Dominion, Clemson and Missouri. Yes, they secured a great road win over West Virginia. But it still wasn’t clear if a team with a pair of NBA prospects named Jarell Martin and Jordan Mickey would manage to fall short of expectations again entering conference play. They’re off to a solid 4-2 start in the SEC. That’s a good thing. Doesn’t guarantee much, though. In all, the Tigers have played four overtime games. They’re 2-1 in games decided by three points or fewer. The Tigers are 92nd in adjusted offensive efficiency. They’re committing turnovers on 21.4 percent of their possessions (282nd nationally). That unreliable offense could lead to problems in the final stretch of the season and beyond. They’ve been walking a tightrope all year.

Like they were saying on SEC Network last night, LSU isn't far off from being 18-1 right now. Think about that

That comment was pretty dumb imo. We arent far from being 13-7 either.

They're getting better every game.

That stat could easily be flipped the opposite way.

Coach Bombay: I go in, I triple deke. I fake the goalie right out of his pads.
The puck's headed in, and then, Clang! Hits the post.
We lost in overtime.
A quarter of an inch this way and it would have gone in.
A quarter of an inch, Charlie.
Charlie: Yeah, but a quarter inch the other way and you'd have missed completely.

You can thank Gray
Actually, there's thanks all-around. Gray's turnovers per time with the ball in his hands is better than Mickey and Martin.
G- T/O- Avg.
MICKEY, Jordan...... 19 61 3.2
GRAY, Josh.......... 18 61 3.4
MARTIN, Jarell...... 20 58 2.9
QUARTERMAN, Tim..... 20 52 2.6
HORNSBY, Keith...... 20 34 1.7

Overused cliche that's not true in this situation. Still making stupid passes, bad decisions and getting beat on defense. A perfect example is gray getting beat on the SAME back door cut on back to back possessions

Right. And Kentucky's not far from being 15-4. Bottom line is the scoreboard folks. There are no bad wins and no good losses. The Tigers are still a slightly inconsistent 16-4 team with the potential to win well over 20 games and go dancing. Still improving.

Our team is very shaky
If we make it to the tourney, I don't see us going very far. We should've won that game last night by 10 imo.

probably not but even making the tournament is a step in the right direction for the program.

You mean we aren't going to the final 4?! Fire johnny!

To be fair, South Carolina is the best 10-9 team you'll see in the NCAA. Their defense is so aggressive.

watching the games, its pretty ease to see that we have been the better team every game this year, outside of maybe West Virginia.
We've lost games, or almost lost games, b/c of foul trouble or stupid 3 point shooting and bonehead plays late in games.
If you went down the line at every team we played or will play, there's only two teams on our schedule that have equal or better talent than us, and we already beat one of them.

I think this shows they play down to their opponent, they coast until they have to play hard. Their intensity picks up when they are in a jam and they play better. Tournament time I see them kicking some arse.

No depth and turnovers have hurt LSU. Every announcer in the SEC games has pretty much said LSU and Pigs are the better teams behind UK. Unfortunately, most other SEC teams are not far behind them.
